Job Summary Under the general direction of the Academic Coordinator provides instructional and logistical support for the BIO2 and BIO2L courses. Responsibilities include laboratory preparation, managing class data, and assisting the academic coordinator in exam logistics. BIO2L assistance includes maintenance of teaching laboratory rooms, equipment rooms, and prep rooms. Prepare miscellaneous supplies; microbiological media, and reagents; cultivate microorganisms; assist with the set-up and maintenance of lab equipment; provide record keeping for lab procedures; sterilize microbiological waste as generated by the teaching laboratories and the Prep Lab; wash and sterilize labware, equipment, and/or instruments. Contribute to the design and display of educational texts. Required to work with or be in areas where hazardous materials, heat, and strong odors are present.   • For full consideration, applicants are encouraged to upload license and/or certification if required of the position No Minimum Education required Experience with lab techniques common in teaching labs such as sterile technique, pipetting, solution prep, media prep, bacterial cultures, PCR, and gel electrophoresis.
Strong grasp of introductory cell biology concepts including cell structure and organelles, energy and metabolism, genetics and information management, the cell cycle, etc. Comfortable guiding graduate students and student learning assistants through course content, experiments, troubleshooting lab problems, and answering conceptual questions. Strong time management skills and the ability to coordinate across multiple course components. Familiarity with course management tools such as Canvas, Gradescope, Microsoft Office (especially Excel) and Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator. Ability to work independently on projects and to set goals and accomplish tasks in a timely manner. Preferred Qualifications Bachelor of Science degree in Cell Biology or related discipline. Experience providing course support in a large teaching lab setting including participation in and coordinating lab set up. Experience in standard lab chemical use, disposal and safety. Experience with assisting in curriculum and course material development such as revisions of laboratory manuals and protocols. 2+ years experience working independently in a molecular biology lab or similar. Knowledge of campus EH&S and Yolo County CUPA regulations. 2+ years working with or alongside graduate student TAs and/or LAs and/or in a teaching lab. Key Responsibilities 75%
