As a Lab Technician in this role, your primary responsibility will be to support the Lab Engineers and Lab Scientists in supporting the department's mission. Have a basic technical understanding of materials and failure analysis to support customers in resolving technical challenges. They should have a sound knowledge of sample preparation techniques and proper utilization of equipment. Utilize various analytical tools and instruments with direction/guidance. Effective communication and a commitment to staying updated with industry advancements are also essential aspects of this position.
Position Summary:
Prepare samples for Optical Microscopy and Scanning Electron Microscopy. Perform precision cutting, mounting, grinding, polishing, and final surface preparation on a wide variety of materials. Produce high-quality cross-sections with minimal preparation artifacts. Follow detailed written procedures and verbal instructions while maintaining high quality standards Evaluate sample quality and determine when additional preparation is required Maintain laboratory equipment and ensure a clean, organized, and safe work environment. Accurately document sample preparation procedures and laboratory activities. Work independently while managing multiple projects and meeting customer turnaround times. Communicate effectively with laboratory staff regarding project status and technical observations.
Qualification:
Associate degree or Bachelor's degree in Materials Science, Engineering Technology, Metallurgy, Mechanical Engineering, or a related technical field; equivalent laboratory experience will also be considered. Experience with mechanical sample preparation, including: Precision cutting Mounting Grinding Polishing Cross-section preparation Strong mechanical aptitude and attention to detail. Excellent problem-solving and critical thinking skills. Ability to work independently with minimal supervision. Ability to accurately follow complex verbal and written instructions. Strong organizational and time management skills. Good verbal and written communication skills.
