Essential functions Review history, physical, medications, orders, and study protocol; complete and verify documentation. Explain procedures clearly and professionally to patients and families. Prepare, calibrate, and troubleshoot recording and therapy equipment; apply electrodes and sensors per published standards. Perform physiologic calibrations and record studies with accurate signals throughout the procedure. Document sleep stages, clinical events, protocol changes, and other significant observations. Implement interventions for patient safety and therapy (CPAP/BiPAP, AVAPS, ASV, oxygen, etc.). Modify the study when needed (unsuccessful titration, mask desensitization, unusual circumstances). Recognize and provide age-appropriate care for pediatric, adolescent, adult, and geriatric patients. Maintain a clean, organized work area; perform routine equipment care, maintenance, and inventory. Follow department policy, infection-control and safety standards, and applicable laws and guidelines. Communicate issues that may delay or compromise work to the lead technologist or manager in a timely manner. Participate in quality improvement; respond to patient and customer concerns promptly. Demonstrate flexibility with schedule and assignments; take on additional tasks during lighter periods. Perform other duties as assigned. Education and experience Required Graduate of a CAAHEP-accredited polysomnography program, AASM A-STEP, or completion of one of the five BRPT pathways to RPSGT registration. Registry-eligible at hire. Preferred Experience with the Alice G3 diagnostic system. Skills Clear communication, sound judgment, organization, proper body mechanics, and the ability to follow protocol and instructions. Licenses and certifications Required RPSGT (BRPT) or an equivalent exam accepted by the AASM within 6 months of hire. Registration with the Medical Board of California as a polysomnographic technologist within 6 months of hire. Current Basic Life Support (BLS) at hire.
