Medical Laboratory Technician

Job Description

Job Overview We are seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented Medical Laboratory Technician to join our healthcare team. In this vital role, you will perform a variety of laboratory tests and procedures to assist in the diagnosis and treatment of patients. Your expertise in laboratory techniques, specimen collection, and data entry will support accurate and timely results that are essential for patient care. The ideal candidate will possess strong knowledge of medical terminology, physiology, and laboratory procedures, along with experience working in hospital or clinical settings. This position offers an opportunity to contribute meaningfully to patient health outcomes while working in a dynamic healthcare environment. Days with variable on call Experienced Lab Technologist needed with 10 + years of lab experience to perform diagnostic procedures on blood and body fluids, collect specimens from patients, perform various lab tests and draws conclusions from results. Must rotate call weekdays plus every fourth weekend. Responsibilities Collect, process, and handle specimens such as blood, urine, and tissue samples using aseptic techniques to ensure sample integrity. Perform laboratory tests according to established protocols, including blood sampling, blood typing, and other diagnostic procedures. Maintain accurate records of test results and enter data into electronic medical records (EMR/EHR) systems with precision. Ensure proper specimen handling and storage, adhering to safety standards and laboratory policies. Assist with patient care activities such as vital signs measurement and basic life support (BLS) when necessary. Support laboratory operations by preparing reagents, calibrating equipment, and maintaining cleanliness of work areas. Follow all safety procedures including CPR certification, heavy lifting protocols, and infection control practices. Collaborate effectively with healthcare professionals to ensure timely communication of results and patient information. Demonstrate knowledge of anatomy and physiology relevant to specimen collection and test interpretation. Contribute to continuous quality improvement initiatives by adhering to best practices in laboratory work. Skills Proficiency in laboratory procedures, techniques, and specimen handling. Strong understanding of medical terminology, anatomy, physiology, and clinical laboratory practices. Experience with venipuncture (phlebotomy), blood sampling, and specimen collection/processing. Familiarity with hospital environments and EMR/EHR systems for data entry. Excellent patient service skills with a compassionate approach to diverse populations including geriatrics and pediatrics. Ability to perform heavy lifting safely when handling specimens or equipment. Knowledge of aseptic techniques to prevent contamination during testing procedures. Effective communication skills for interacting with patients and multidisciplinary teams. Basic life support (BLS) and CPR certification required; additional certifications in phlebotomy or clinical laboratory work are advantageous. $1,820.00 - $1,910.00 per week
