A Medical Laboratory Technician helps with the performance of laboratory tests in toxicology, chemistry, hematology, immunology, and microbiology laboratories, which provide information for medical patient diagnosis and treatment. Sets up, operates, and maintains laboratory equipment, makes observations, and calculates and records results; receives, types, tests, and records blood bank inventories.

Job Description

Department Microbiology Job Summary Performs waived testing or assists in the performance of moderately complex laboratory tests under supervision to obtain data for use in the diagnosis and treatment of disease. Responsibilities include specimen preparation for testing, centrifuge maintenance & electrical checks, temperature charts, pipette maintenance & calibration, and locating specimens on pending lists. Follows all hospital and laboratory policies, guidelines, procedures and protocols pertaining to job duties and meets expectations for performance standards. Required Qualifications
  • Require an experienced phlebotomist with two (2) years of phlebotomy experience with all age groups, and one year registration experience which may be concurrent with phlebotomy experience with an active Phlebotomy certification from a nationally recognized agency; or an Associate's Degree in a health care related field such as biology, microbiology, chemistry, or health science; or a Medical Laboratory Science student that is in at least their third (3rd) year of studies.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Prefer one (1) year laboratory related experience.
  • Prefer demonstrated excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Prefer basic working knowledge of commonly used computer applications and office equipment.
