• Specimen Assistant, where you will play a vital role in supporting laboratory operations and ensuring the accurate handling and processing of specimens. • Support routine specimen handling functions including sorting, racking, pickup, and delivery of specimens to the laboratory
• Assist with specimen storage and, if trained, operate sorter machines in archive mode
• Support centrifugation and aliquoting processes
• Identify issues with specimen types or missing information and support problem resolution
• Maintain compliance with regulations related to test ordering and specimen handling
• Complete accurate and legible documentation of tasks within specified timeframes
• Support staffing needs during weekends, holidays, on-call, and overtime as required
• Contribute to a team environment by supporting departmental goals and participating in continuous improvement efforts
• Follow safety protocols and maintain a clean, orderly work area in accordance with 5S standards
• Perform additional duties as assigned to support laboratory operations Required Skills
• Basic data entry skills
• Good organizational abilities
• Understanding of specimen types related to tests ordered
• Knowledge of specimen handling, storage, and delivery procedures
• Ability to work effectively under pressure and maintain composure
• Strong communication skills, both verbal and written
• Good judgment and problem-solving capabilities
• Ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously in a production environment Additional Skills & Requirements
• High School Diploma or GED required; medical background preferred, including medical terminology relevant to clinical laboratories
• Previous experience in a production or laboratory environment preferred
• Familiarity with mainframe computers is a plus
• Flexibility to support the department's staffing needs on weekends, holidays, on call, and overtime
• Ability to sit, stand, or walk for extended periods and lift up to 50 lbs. as needed
• Demonstrated strong interpersonal skills to foster a positive work environment
