Full-time, weekend availability requiredDescription of Position:
Nevysta Laboratory is seeking a reliable, and committed individual to serve as a Laboratory Technician.This position will:
- Perform regulatory testing of environmental samples, using strict adherence to standard operating procedures and protocols.
- Accurately and aseptically prepare media and reagents.
- Perform bacteriologic tests for a diverse group of sample types and organisms.
- Assist with avian research projects, exercising confidentiality, precision, and attention to detail to provide customers with the most impartial results.
- Receive samples and verify information provided by submitters, accurately describes the material received. Utilize specialized LIMS software to enter submission information/results and provide timely reports to clients.
- Perform and document quality control tasks to ensure both media and bacterial organisms perform as expected. Maintain bacterial cell stock and successfully revive preserved specimens.
- Maintain laboratory inventory of critical supplies and order items as needed. Inform laboratory supervisor of inventory levels and consumables needs. Monitor shipments and document supply receipts accordingly.
- Assist in monitoring and documenting equipment performance, as well as maintenance and calibration, according to the maintenance schedule.
- Monitor incoming communication from suppliers and customers via telephone and e-mail; actively work to respond timely to both supplier and customer requests.
- Assist in light housekeeping duties, including following procedures for biohazardous waste disposal, cleaning and autoclaving of glassware and other equipment, etc.
Knowledge, Skills, Attributes:
- Familiarity with standard laboratory equipment, including incubators, refrigerators, freezers and drying ovens; micro- and serological pipettes; hot plates; autoclave
- Aseptic technique
- Experience with basic microbiology techniques, including inoculating media with bacteria; preparing microscope slides from samples for Gram's stain; performing serial dilutions, etc.
- Familiarity with basic office equipment (printer, scanner, fax, telephone), and standard Microsoft and Google applications (Word, Excel, Google Drive, etc.); experience with specialized laboratory software programs is favored.
