Laboratory Technician#26-10139 Johnston, IA All On-site Job Description
  • Agriscience is looking for a responsible and highly motivated Research Associate to join the Protein Engineering Group!
The Protein Engineering Group (PEG) in Protein and Analytical Core Technologies (PACT) is focused on expressing, purifying, characterizing, and improving protein function.
The new team member will:
prepare reagents necessary for protein purification, express protein in recombinant system(s), purify protein gravity flow chromatography and using a fast protein liquid chromatography (FPLC) system, analyze proteins by SDS-PAGE, western blots, DLS, and other assays. The team member will work both independently on projects as well as part of team projects, keeping in mind that we generate protein for the larger PEG and
  • pipeline. A key task in this role is data capture and representation. The duties and responsibilities of this role include but are not limited to the following:
  • Ensure that all materials necessary for an experiment are prepared on time and in a safe manner
  • Perform routine lab support tasks including the following:
  • General lab cleaning/maintenance
  • Lab supply inventory
  • Equipment operation/housekeeping
  • Perform protein expression and purification
  • Keep updated notes in predetermined format/database
  • Troubleshoot processes as needed
  • Promotion of a safe working environment
  • Continually look for process improvement opportunities and help the team to implement solutions Job Qualifications The following are required:
  • Bachelor's degree in chemistry, biology, biochemistry or equivalent amounts of relevant education and experience
  • Strong wet-lab skills
  • Ability to work well with teams as well as independently
  • Attention to detail and ability to stay focused
  • Experience with problem identification, problem solving and process improvement
  • Self-motivated, goal-oriented, and committed to personal/technical growth
  • Must have excellent written and oral communication skills The following are preferred:
  • Protein purification or molecular biology experience
  • Solution preparation
  • Recombinant protein expression
  • Phage display experience
