Overview We are seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented Cytology Technician to join our pathology laboratory team. In this vital role, you will be responsible for preparing, analyzing, and processing cytological specimens to assist in the diagnosis of various medical conditions. Your expertise will support accurate pathology testing, tissue sample preparation, and laboratory procedures that are essential for patient care and clinical research. The ideal candidate will bring a strong foundation in laboratory tissue sectioning, histological techniques, and laboratory information systems to ensure precise and efficient workflow.
Key Responsibilities:
Prepare and process cytological specimens, including fine needle aspirates, smears, and other tissue samples, following established laboratory protocols Perform laboratory tissue sectioning and histological techniques to facilitate accurate microscopic analysis Conduct laboratory tissue sample preparation utilizing appropriate staining, immunohistochemistry, and immunological techniques Maintain strict adherence to CLIA (Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendments) regulations and laboratory standard operating procedures to ensure compliance Operate and calibrate medical laboratory equipment with precision to support pathology testing and specimen processing Collect patient specimens using aseptic technique and proper phlebotomy procedures when necessary Document all procedures accurately within Laboratory Information Systems (LIS) and maintain detailed records of specimen handling Assist in laboratory quality control measures, including monitoring vital signs when applicable during patient interactions Support research activities by maintaining laboratory records, preparing tissue sections for experiments, and assisting with histotechnology tasks Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to ensure timely processing of specimens while maintaining high standards of patient care Requirements Prior experience in clinical or research laboratories specializing in cytology or histology is highly desirable Strong knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy, physiology, and pathology principles Proficiency with laboratory tissue sectioning, histological techniques, immunohistochemistry, and laboratory procedures Familiarity with laboratory information systems (LIS) for specimen tracking and documentation Experience with laboratory equipment used in tissue processing and microscopic analysis Understanding of CLIA regulations governing medical laboratories to ensure compliance Ability to perform laboratory tissue sample preparation accurately under supervision or independently Excellent organizational skills with attention to detail in documentation and procedure execution Effective communication skills for collaboration within healthcare teams or research settings If you are committed to advancing diagnostic accuracy through meticulous laboratory work and possess the necessary technical expertise, we encourage you to apply for this rewarding opportunity as a Cytology Technician.
