Medical Laboratory Technician

Job Description

Job Overview We are seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented Medical Laboratory Technician to join our healthcare team. The ideal candidate will possess a strong foundation in laboratory procedures and techniques, with a commitment to delivering accurate and timely diagnostic results. As a Medical Laboratory Technician, you will perform essential laboratory tests, handle specimens with precision, and support patient care initiatives within a fast-paced hospital or clinical environment. Your expertise will contribute significantly to patient diagnosis and treatment planning, ensuring high standards of safety and quality are maintained at all times. Duties Collect, process, and analyze biological specimens such as blood, urine, and tissue samples using established laboratory techniques. Perform laboratory tests following standard operating procedures while maintaining strict adherence to aseptic techniques and safety protocols. Operate and maintain laboratory equipment, ensuring calibration and proper functioning for accurate test results. Document test results accurately in electronic medical records (EMR/EHR) systems and assist with data entry tasks. Assist with specimen collection from patients, including venipuncture (blood sampling), specimen handling, and processing for analysis. Support patient care activities by taking vital signs when necessary and providing compassionate patient service during specimen collection. Follow infection control practices diligently, including proper specimen handling and maintaining a sterile environment. Collaborate with healthcare professionals to ensure timely communication of test results for effective patient management. Requirements Proven experience in a clinical or hospital laboratory setting with knowledge of laboratory procedures and techniques. Certification or training in phlebotomy (venipuncture) and basic life support (CPR/BLS). Strong understanding of medical terminology, anatomy, physiology, and clinical laboratory practices. Experience working with EMR/EHR systems for data entry and documentation purposes. Ability to perform heavy lifting when necessary to transport specimens or equipment safely. Knowledge of pediatric, geriatric, and general patient care requirements related to specimen collection. Excellent attention to detail, organizational skills, and the ability to work efficiently under pressure. Prior hospital or healthcare facility experience is highly desirable.
