Assays Full Job Description Overview:
Element has an opportunity for a Laboratory Assistant to join our growing bioassay testing team in Lafayette, LA. This role supports laboratory operations focused on biological and environmental testing services, contributing to accurate and timely analytical results. The Laboratory Assistant performs routine and semi-routine testing activities under supervision while maintaining strict adherence to quality systems, safety protocols, and regulatory standards.
Responsibilities:
Perform bioassay and related laboratory tests in accordance with established methods, standard operating procedures (SOPs), and customer specifications Prepare samples, reagents, and media to support microbiological and biological testing workflows Accurately collect, document, and report test data in laboratory information systems and/or controlled records Operate and maintain laboratory equipment under the guidance of senior technicians or laboratory leadership Follow Good Laboratory Practices (GLP), safety protocols, and quality standards to ensure data integrity and compliance Assist with general laboratory upkeep, including cleaning, sterilization, and inventory management of consumables Collaborate with team members to meet turnaround times and client expectations
Requirements:
High school diploma or GED required; coursework in biology, chemistry, or a related scientific field preferred 0-2 years of laboratory or testing experience, preferably in a biological, environmental, or life sciences setting Basic understanding of laboratory techniques, including sample handling and data recording Familiarity with laboratory safety practices and willingness to follow regulated procedures Strong attention to detail and ability to work in a structured, compliance-driven environment Basic computer proficiency (data entry, LIMS exposure a plus) Ability to apply fundamental math skills (e.g., basic algebra, measurements, dilutions)
Physical Demands:
Ability to stand for extended periods during laboratory operations Frequent lifting of materials up to 50 lbs; occasional lifting above 50 lbs Ability to perform repetitive tasks and maintain focus in a laboratory environment
Pay:
$18.00 - $19.00 per hour
