Job Description The Center for Nanoscale Systems (CNS) at Harvard University seeks a talented, enthusiastic individual to work with the Imaging and Analysis Group as a laboratory technician providing services to CNS, and maintaining state-of-the-art laboratories and scientific equipment. CNS is an open, shared-use facility that serves all of Harvard as well as external academic and industrial users. Working under the supervision of the Associate Director of Imaging and Analysis, this person will be providing training, technical support and immediate service for more than a thousand CNS users. This position will be a technical support position for the Imaging, Materials and Soft Lithography areas of CNS. This is a temporary position lasting up to 6 months or up until a permanent role covering these responsibilities is filled. They give room safety trainings for the three labs and specific tool safety trainings in those labs. Will keep the laboratories functioning by having all the tools in service and in good maintenance, and by having them stocked with all supplies the users might need to perform their experiments. Will provide excellent technical training and troubleshooting aiding the CNS users in their research efforts. Laboratory Technician to work within the Imaging and Analysis Group as a laboratory technician to help manage the day-to-day operations of the laboratories overseen by the Imaging and Analysis group covering approximately 30 different rooms of research laboratory space and more than 250 pieces of equipment. Day-to-day duties in these labs include but are not limited include ordering supplies, stocking labs, general lab housekeeping, managing lab waste, changing gas cylinders, changing liquid nitrogen tanks, some equipment trouble shooting and maintenance, managing equipment service visits, etc. Job Specific Responsibilities Ordering supplies and consumables for the lab including restocking materials, PPE and consumables for the labs and general lab housekeeping. Managing Lab Waste/Radioactive and Toxic Waste. Managing waste disposal of the facilities, performing daily checks on satellite waste collection areas. Taking out the Biohazard bins, liquid bio-waste, chemical waste disposals. Maintaining a safe area for users. Equipment trouble shooting and maintenance. Includes changing gas cylinders, changing liquid nitrogen tanks. Managing equipment service visits - Managing and coordinating with outside suppliers for equipment service when and as required, PM visits. Training users on lab operations and equipment. Giving trainings to CNS users on peripheral equipment.

Safety:

Ensure the laboratories are used correctly and in full compliance with procedures and policies. Providing room safety training to all new users. Basic Qualifications A science degree, BSc or equivalent, experience may count towards degree. College degree preferably in a related discipline; directly related work experience may substitute.

Skills and Experience:

One or more years related work experience (relevant course work may count towards experience). Demonstrated knowledge of laboratory protocols and abilities in laboratory techniques are required. Appropriate communications skills required. Additional Qualifications Project Management experience, good personal skills for dealing with customers, contractors and other services, conflict management, customer service experience. Hands on laboratory experience, experience interfacing with vendors and contractors, getting facilities prepared for the installation of new tools, communication skills for trainings, flexible schedule to be able to react to late-night or weekend alarms, safety officer experience, etc. Ability to use a Scanning Electron Microscope (SEM) and train users would be advantageous. Certificates and License s None Physical Requirements Must be able to work in imaging facility, cleanroom, biological, chemical, and characterization laboratory environments. Will work around compressed gases, cryogens, ovens, acids, bases, oxidizers, solvents, vacuum pump oils, and other chemicals. Must be very dexterous; may be required to work on large and small assemblies. Ability to lift 50 lbs on occasion. Moving gas cylinders and liquid nitrogen tanks required.
