Job Title:
Lab Technician Job Description The Lab Technician will be responsible for handling and collecting blood from horseshoe crabs and processing the blood in a laboratory setting. The role involves training in standard operating procedures (SOPs), current Good Manufacturing Practices (cGMPs), general aseptic processing, and disinfecting techniques. Responsibilities Assist with the horseshoe crab blood collection process per approved SOPs, including setting up and preparing the collection area, cleaning and preparing crabs, aseptically collecting blood, and cleaning and disinfecting the area at the end of the day. Assist in crab blood processing per approved SOPs, including all processing lab assignments such as centrifuging, pipetting, sonication, solution preparation, and cleaning and disinfecting the area at the end of the day. Aseptically handle filled and unfilled collection bottles in and out of bio-safety cabinets (hoods). Ensure timely and accurate completion of all required paperwork entries per SOPs. Clean and maintain production equipment. Tag crabs with US Fish & Wildlife tags. Essential Skills Specimen processing Accessioning Lab testing Knowledge of laboratory, chemistry, biology, GMP, microbiology, medical terminology, molecular biology, and data entry Quality control Additional Skills & Qualifications 1-2 years experience in a production environment is desirable B.S. degree in a scientific-related field is desirable or a high school diploma Ability to follow written procedures and carry them out to completeness Organizational skills, time management skills, and excellent attendance Strong written and oral communication skills Teamwork skills and willingness to work closely with others to meet departmental objectives Math and computer skills Work Environment The work schedule is Monday-Friday, starting at 5:30 am until finished, usually between 4:00-4:30 pm. The job might require working 4 or 5 days depending on hours worked. Working conditions vary from the laboratory environment to crab-holding areas. Some overtime work will be required. The role may involve long periods of standing, heavy lifting (up to 50 lbs), repetitive motions, and exposure to chemical hazards. Daily cleaning with strong disinfectant solutions is required. Persons with sensitivity or allergies to cleaning and disinfecting solutions should not apply. Job Type & Location This is a Contract position based out of

Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $17.00 - $18.00/hr. Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
