Full Job Description Position Overview:

Our clinical laboratory is expanding its team and is in search of a motivated and detail-oriented Flow Cytometry Technician/Technologist. This vital position is geared towards individuals with a passion for laboratory sciences and a particular interest or experience in flow cytometry. Ideal for clinical lab scientists, MLTs, and even university laboratory research assistants/associates eager to apply their laboratory skills in a clinical setting, this role involves conducting high-complexity testing and analysis to support patient care. The successful candidate will be integral to our team, independently handling specimen processing, testing, analysis, and ensuring the accuracy and reliability of all flow cytometry data.

Key Responsibilities:

Clinical Testing:

Independently perform clinical laboratory tasks, including specimen processing, testing, analyzing, and documentation.

Compliance:

Follow laboratory procedures for specimen handling and processing, test analyses, reporting, and maintaining records of patient test results.

Quality Assurance:

Identify issues that could negatively impact test performance or result reporting.

Inventory Control:

Assist in managing laboratory inventory.

Specimen Processing:

Independently perform complex specimen processing, including peripheral blood mononuclear cell (PBMC) isolation via density gradient centrifugation (Ficoll-Paque) or automated systems.

Cellular Processing:

Perform cell culture, sterile technique maintenance, cell counting, and sample incubation protocols required for functional or stimulated flow cytometry assays.

Flow Cytometry Operations:

Conduct all facets of flow cytometry testing and analysis, which includes calibrating instruments, preparing samples, applying gating techniques, and maintaining reagents.

Instrumentation:

Utilize BD FACSLyric Flow Cytometer for data acquisition and analysis, discerning between normal and abnormal results.

Reporting:

Compile and prepare materials for pathologist review and sign-out.

Accreditation:

Ensure compliance with

CLIA, CAP/COLA

accreditation standards, and maintain relevant manuals.

Innovation:

Participate in clinical research projects, validation studies, and the optimization of new multi-color flow cytometry panels.

Support:

Undertake additional tasks as needed.

Educational Requirements:

Degree:

Bachelor's degree, Master's degree, or Ph.D. in Molecular Biology, Cell Biology, Immunology, Biotechnology, Medical Technology, or a related biological, chemical, or physical science.

Experience:

Minimum of 1-2 years of hands-on flow cytometry experience in either a clinical diagnostics laboratory or an academic/university research environment.

Certifications & Compliance:

Clinical Certification:

MLS(ASCP), MT(ASCP), or SCYM(ASCP) certification is preferred but not required if the candidate has equivalent hands-on academic research experience. Note for

Must be willing and able to be trained on, and strictly adhere to, clinical regulatory standards (CLIA, CAP/COLA) and patient privacy laws (HIPAA).

Physical Requirement:

Must possess adequate color vision to accurately interpret multi-color flow cytometry data and gating plots.
