This position plays and important role in maintaining bath chemistry, process consistency, accurate technical documentation, and compliance with customer, quality and NADCAP requirements. The Lab Technician will perform routine wet chemistry testing, maintain laboratory records, monitor testing frequencies, assist with chemical inventory, and support technical and metallurgical activities as needed. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Perform wet titrations and chemical analysis of process baths throughout the facility. Follow established titration procedures, work instructions, and laboratory testing methods to ensure accurate and repeatable results. Maintain accurate records of bath analyses, chemical additions, test results, and other laboratory data to support NAPCAP requirements, audits and traceability. Maintain and organize bath & chemical data sheets, technical data sheets, safety information, and supporting laboratory documentation. Monitor required solution analysis frequencies and ensure testing is completed according to established schedules and process requirements. Calculate chemical quantities and concentrations required for new bath makeups, bath adjustments, and replenishment. Perform Total Dissolved Solids (TDS) testing of rinse water and document results. Perform electrical conductivity testing of process and rinse water. Test incoming fresh water for purity and applicable quality requirements. Identify bath conditions that fall outside established specifications and communicate findings to appropriate production and quality personnel. Monitor expiration dates and proper storage of laboratory chemicals, reagents, and testing materials. Maintain laboratory records and documentation necessary to support NADCAP requirements, audits, and traceability. Ensure laboratory documentation is complete, accurate, legible, and maintained according to applicable retention requirements. Assist with metallurgical testing, evaluation, documentation, or other technical/troubleshooting activities as required. Perform routine verification, calibration, or maintenance of laboratory testing equipment as required. Follow all safety procedures when handling chemicals, solutions, laboratory equipment, and hazardous materials. Maintain a clean, organized, and compliant laboratory environment. Work closely with Quality, Production, and other departments to support process control and resolve chemistry-related concerns. Participate in internal, customer, NADCAP, or other regulatory audits as needed. Perform other related duties as assigned. Qualifications High school diploma or equivalent required. Previous laboratory experience in plating, metal finishing, chemical processing, aerospace, defense, or a related manufacturing environment preferred. Previous experience performing wet titrations or solution analysis strongly preferred. NADCAP experience preferred. Experience working with chemical process specifications, technical data sheets, and controlled documentation preferred. Knowledge of basic chemistry, chemical concentrations, ratios, and mathematical calculations. Ability to accurately perform calculations related to bath makeup, chemical additions, concentrations, and solution adjustments. Basic understanding of metallurgy or metallurgical testing preferred. Experience with TDS meters, conductivity meters, pH meters, burettes, pipettes, balances, and other common laboratory equipment preferred. Strong attention to detail and commitment to accurate recordkeeping. Ability to follow written procedures and technical instructions consistently. Ability to recognize results that are outside established specifications and appropriately communicate concerns. Basic computer skills, including experience with Microsoft Office. Ability to organize and maintain laboratory records for audit and traceability purposes. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Strong mathematical and analytical skills. High level of accuracy and attention to detail. Ability to work independently while following established procedures. Strong organizational and recordkeeping skills. Ability to manage multiple testing schedules and priorities. Ability to communicate laboratory results clearly to production, quality, and management personnel. Understanding of chemical safety, proper labeling, storage, and handling practices. Ability to maintain confidentiality and integrity of quality and technical records. Willingness to learn customer-specific, NADCAP, and internal process requirements. Physical Requirements Ability to stand and walk for extended periods throughout the workday. Ability to frequently use hands and fingers to handle laboratory equipment, samples, chemicals, and documentation. Ability to safely lift and carry laboratory supplies and chemical containers as required. Ability to wear required personal protective equipment, including safety glasses, gloves, protective clothing, and other PPE appropriate for chemical handling. Must have sufficient visual ability to accurately read measuring devices, identify color changes during titrations, review technical documentation, and perform detailed laboratory work. Work Environment This position works primarily in a laboratory within a manufacturing and metal finishing environment. The employee may regularly work around chemicals, plating solutions, industrial equipment, and production processes. Proper PPE and adherence to all environmental, health, safety, and chemical-handling procedures are required.
