Laboratory Collection Technician
Job Description
Laboratory Collection Technician (Collection Tech) Position Summary The Laboratory Collection Technician is responsible for receiving and assisting clients, conducting specimen collection procedures, processing payments, maintaining accurate records, and ensuring compliance with established collection protocols. This position requires strong customer service skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work professionally with a diverse client population, including probation clients, employment-screening applicants, students, and other community members. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Welcome, sign in, and assist clients upon arrival. Verify client information and complete intake procedures and required documentation. .Monitor and review information from materials, events, or the environment, to detect or assess problems. Accept and process various forms of payment. Perform and/or observe urine drug screen collections according to established protocol to ensure accuracy of test results Conduct oral fluid (swab), urine collections and breath alcohol testing. Maintain accurate records, files, and collection documentation. Enter, record, store and maintain information in written and electronic form Ensure proper chain-of-custody procedures are followed when required. Analyze and record test data to issue reports to use charts, graphs, or narratives. Prepare specimens and documentation for shipment or further processing. Maintain a clean, organized, and professional work environment, including light cleaning of workspaces and collection areas. Use relevant information and individual judgment to determine where events or processes comply with laws regulations or standards. Work with a variety of client populations, including probation, court-ordered, employment, student, and other testing programs. As training progresses, learn additional collection and testing procedures and independently perform collections upon successful completion of training. Qualifications High school diploma or GED required. Previous customer service, medical office, laboratory, or collection experience preferred. Strong communication and interpersonal skills. Ability to maintain confidentiality and professionalism. Basic computer and data entry skills.
