Posting Summary Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey is seeking a Glider Technician for the Rutgers University Center for Ocean Observing Leadership (RUCOOL) - Department of Marine and Coastal Sciences (DMCS). The Glider Technician will support laboratory and field activities. The Glider Technician will assist with the preparation, maintenance, deployment, recovery, and operation of autonomous underwater gliders and related oceanographic equipment in support of externally sponsored NSF project
AMOC-CARIB.
Among the key duties of the position are the following: Assists with autonomous underwater glider preparation and operations. Supports deployment and recovery activities for gliders and oceanographic equipment. Assists with equipment maintenance, troubleshooting, and laboratory support. Supports field and vessel-based research activities. Assists with data collection and day-to-day operational activities associated with RUCOOL research programs. FLSA Nonexempt Salary Details $23.00 - $25.00/hourly Offer Information The final salary offer may be determined by several factors, including, but not limited to, the candidate's qualifications, experience, and expertise, and availability of department or grant funds to support the position. Payroll Designation PeopleSoft Terms of Appointment Temporary Staff Appointment - Hourly Qualifications Minimum Education and Experience Bachelor's degree in oceanography, marine science, environmental science, engineering, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and/or relevant experience. Certifications/Licenses Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a field and laboratory environment. Preferred Qualifications Experience working with oceanographic equipment, field sampling, research vessels, or autonomous systems. Familiarity with oceanographic sensors, gliders, or basic programming/software applications. Equipment Utilized Autonomous underwater gliders, oceanographic sensors and instrumentation, computers and scientific software applications, small hand tools, laboratory equipment, data acquisition systems, GPS/navigation equipment, and related field and marine research equipment. Physical Demands and Work Environment Ability to lift and carry equipment up to 50 lbs. and participate in laboratory, dockside, and field-based research activities. Duties may involve prolonged standing, bending, climbing, working outdoors in varying weather conditions, and occasional work aboard research vessels in a marine environment. Ability to safely support equipment deployment and recovery operations.
