As a Histology Assistant, you will play an essential role in supporting post-mortem examinations, maintaining accurate specimen data, and partnering with an interdisciplinary team dedicated to clinical integrity and precision. A typical day for a Histology Assistant may include: Assisting the pathologist and Pathologist Assistant (PA) during the post-mortem examination process with a high level of care and precision Entering patient and specimen information accurately into the Pathology and Hospital Information Systems to maintain robust records Communicates and coordinates seamlessly with the histology department and the Ocean County Medical Examiner to ensure smooth workflows Maintaining a safe, clean, and secure laboratory environment by following strict safety protocols, infection prevention practices, and organizational policies Ensuring proper handling, labeling, and tracking of specimens to support accurate and timely diagnostic results Pursuing continued professional development through training, education, and organizational resources that support long-term career growth This role might be for you if: Dignity and profound respect define how you handle sensitive post-mortem and laboratory processes You possess strong attention to detail and maintain accuracy while entering critical data into information systems Strong communication skills help you collaborate effectively with external agencies and internal departments You value teamwork and enjoy working alongside pathologists, assistants, and medical examiners Adaptability allows you to respond confidently as laboratory needs, schedules, and priorities change Continuous learning and professional growth are important to you To be considered for this Histology Assistant opportunity: You are passionate about supporting laboratory services and pathology operations while helping create a safe, respectful, and highly precise clinical environment. High School diploma or equivalent is required. Classes in biology and related sciences are preferred. Along with strong communication skills and the ability to work effectively as part of a collaborative care team. Per Diem evening shift, Monday through Friday from 5:00 PM to 9:00 PM. Must participate in a rotating 24-hour weekend on-call schedule. This includes being on call one or more evenings during the week (varies weekly/monthly) and providing 24-hour on-call coverage for at least one full weekend (Saturday and Sunday) per month.
