About Us:
At Lux Dermatology, we provide exceptional dermatological care, leveraging advanced technology in a supportive and collaborative environment. We are looking for a dedicated Laboratory Assistant to support our technical staff and ensure the efficient operations of our laboratory.
Job Summary:
The Laboratory Assistant will be instrumental in maintaining the daily operations of our dermatology lab. You will support technical staff by managing specimen handling, data management, and equipment maintenance. This position requires strong attention to detail, excellent organizational skills, and a commitment to adhering to safety and compliance regulations.
Key Responsibilities:
Specimen Handling:
  • Manage the safe intake and tracking of all clinical specimens.
  • Verify accurate dual labeling against requisition forms.
  • Prepare tissue samples from gross examinations for diagnosis and testing.
Equipment Maintenance:
  • Ensure proper cleaning, disinfection, and setup of automatic stainers and tissue processors.
  • Change and rotate solutions as needed per standard operating procedures (SOP).
Data Management:
  • Maintain detailed logs and perform classic clerical filing of laboratory documents.
  • Prepare tissue samples for external specialized pathology testing.
Inventory Management:
  • Order lab supplies and maintain an organized inventory to ensure seamless operations.
Compliance:
  • Follow established procedures and policies, as well as health and safety regulations, including HIPAA and OSHA state regulations.
Qualifications:
High school diploma or equivalent; an associate's degree in a related field is preferred. Previous experience in a laboratory setting, particularly in a healthcare environment, is advantageous. Familiarity with laboratory safety protocols and regulatory compliance (HIPAA, OSHA). Strong attention to detail with excellent organizational abilities. Effective communication skills, both verbal and written. Proficient in data management and clerical tasks, as well as computer applications relevant to the laboratory.
Physical Requirements:
Ability to stand for long periods and perform repetitive tasks. Capability to lift and move laboratory equipment and materials.
