Job Title:
Lab Technician Job Description The Laboratory Technician is responsible for completing assigned duties to ensure customer, team member, and vendor satisfaction. This role involves performing tests on production samples and finished product samples to determine compliance with
FDA, NYS
regulations, and internal standards, supporting the manufacture of dairy-related products. Responsibilities Achieve assigned goals in production, safety, quality, performance, and cost. Notify others of mechanical malfunctions to increase productivity and equipment capabilities, and identify areas where operators can assist in resolving concerns. Comply with GMPs, SOPs, corporate and plant policies, rules, and regulations. Provide assistance and support to all areas in the production facility as assigned and begin to train and build competence in key production areas. Gain competence on line circuits and ensure proper hookups are made in the facility. Cover breaks, lunches, and other staffing needs as assigned. Comply with legal requirements concerning dairy processing and safety, reporting concerns to supervisors. Work in a safe manner, report safety concerns, and take corrective actions to ensure a safe environment. Report food safety problems and initiate action to support SQF by maintaining food safety and quality. Ensure work areas are sanitary and adhere strictly to sanitation practices. Communicate effectively between shifts and departments. Conduct and evaluate product testing results and determine compliance with standards. Release compliant products from hold using the computerized inventory management system. Inspect and verify the sanitary condition of processing lines and overall areas, conduct ATP swabbing and visual inspections. Validate vitamin additions and batching sheets for processing departments. Maintain cleanliness of work areas and equipment. Conduct microbiological analyses, chemical analyses, and sensory testing for finished products, in-process processes, and incoming materials. Conduct bacteria/shelf life testing of fresh and stressed samples. Maintain laboratory logbook and Hold/Disposition Log for the shift worked. Log and send out COAs as testing completes. Complete Titratable Acidity tests using all methods. Conduct allergen testing as required. Perform sterile sampling of tanks and report results in a timely manner. Complete and report product testing using tally and Product Testing Record. Perform cryoscope testing on milk products. Verify product labeling accuracy. Conduct EQA testing. Complete shelf life sensory testing and attend training annually. Perform butterfat and solids testing using appropriate equipment. Conduct product sterility testing on samples received. Update log and results for Product Hold and Disposition Log and follow up on products as needed. Utilize the LIMS system to verify analytical, sensory, and microbiological testing. Essential Skills Ability to apply basic to complex mathematical concepts such as adding, counting, subtracting, multiplying, dividing, and knowledge of weights and measures. Proficient in reading, writing, and communicating in English. Knowledge of the company's mission, purpose, goals, and your role in achieving them. Ability to operate facility equipment as required in the assigned area. Completion of all company training requirements. Ability to interpret company documents and literature and UPC/code information. Additional Skills & Qualifications Minimum of GED or High School Diploma is required. Associate's degree in dairy/food sciences or equivalent is highly preferred. 1-2 years of experience in a similar food industry lab setting is highly preferred. Work Environment The role requires working in a laboratory setting with availability for morning, afternoon, and overnight shifts any day of the week. Proper business and position-appropriate attire must be worn, including compliance with GMP dress code standards. The work schedule may vary based on assigned shifts. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of East Syracuse, NY. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $24.50 - $24.50/hr. Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
