Because our laboratory is open 24/7/365, holiday rotations may be required as needed. SummaryReceives, unpacks, completes chain of custody and related documentation, accessions into LIMS, returns samples, monitors department reports and performs support activities in the department.

Education and Experience RequirementsHigh School DiplomaMS Office and typing/data entry skills with a high level of accuracyJob DutiesIt is the responsibility of the Specimen Processor to unpack specimens shipped to NMS, complete chain of custody and related documentation, log samples into our laboratory information management system, and perform support activities for the department.

Major duties and responsibilities:

Receiving and Opening packagesTransporting samples to the labInventory storageCreate specimen homogenatesMonitor backlog report, retrieve, prepare and document samples for outsourced testing.

Create blank tissues for LabMaintain chain of custody documentationAccession clinical samples into the Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS)Second reviews (clinical)Package samples for return to client

Physical Demands:

Ability to talk, hear, and use hands and fingers to manipulate computer keyboard, objects, or controlsRequires walking from one work location to another throughout the shiftSitting and standing for up to extended periods of time.

Lifting and carrying objects up to 10 poundsAbility to travel as needed for court testimony.

Specific vision abilities (with correction) include close and distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
