Applicants are encouraged to apply as early as possible. Key Responsibilities Do you want to work at the Utah Public Health Laboratory? Here is your chance to be a Lab Tech II as a NBS Sample Processor. In this position you are responsible for the entire pre-analytical process which includes receiving the sample, entering demographic data for the sample, as well as opening the sample and preparing it for testing in the Newborn screening testing section of the lab. Due to the nature of this position, compliance with the Utah Department of Health Employee Immunization policy is required. This position also requires an initial blood sample for hepatitis and TB (tuberculosis) testing upon hire and a TB test is required annually. We are looking for candidates willing to work shifts between 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM Monday

• Friday with a rotating Saturday 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM.

Day-to-day responsibilities of this position:

All of the samples received and prepared for testing need to be accurately entered into the Laboratory Information System (LIMS).

In addition you need to:

Correctly label samples by a barcode labeling system. Sorts, labels, and maintains integrity of all specimens. Stores and disposes of various samples and/or hazardous materials using prescribed methods. Cleans, sterilizes, and/or disinfects areas and/or equipment. Maintains accurate records and logs. Assists the public and communicates with other clinics and labs regarding technical questions.

Supplemental Information Working Conditions:

The typical office setting for this job is adequately lighted, heated and ventilated. However, you may encounter some risks that are associated with any office setting, for example, the safe use of office equipment, avoiding trips and falls, observing fire regulations, etc. Work also requires the handling of stable, but potentially harmful chemicals including, but not limited to acids, bases, detergents, and bio-hazardous waste.

Standard Schedule:

Monday

• Friday, 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM and rotations on

Saturdays:

8:00 AM to 4:30 PM. Per State of Utah regulation, you are required to either reside within the State of Utah or plan on residing within the State of Utah within 30 days of your start date. This job requires physical exertion. You may be required to stand for long periods of time. In addition, you may be required to bend, crouch, stoop, stretch, reach, or lift moderately heavy items (up to 50 lbs.) in a recurring manner or for long periods of time. Qualifications Minimum or "day-one" qualifications: We are seeking someone who has: The ability to perform a high volume of data entry. Exceptional phone and in person direct customer service skills. The ability to communicate professionally with hospital and clinical staff. The knowledge of laboratory techniques and safety practices. The skill and ability to review and/or edit documents for accuracy and completeness.

Preferred or trainable/on-the-job qualifications:

Can type at a minimum speed of 35 words per minute. Have prior experience with specimen processing or worked a clinical/laboratory setting. Are a current or former UPHL or DHHS employee. About the Role Location
