Job Description

Overview:
Savannah River Mission Completion (SRMC) is seeking Defense Waste Processing Facility (DWPF) Lead Laboratory Technicians to be based in our Aiken, SC location on the Savannah River Site (SRS). The DWPF Lead Laboratory Technician serves as the Shift Lead in the absence of the First Line Manager (FLM). Provides oversight and coordinates work for Laboratory Technicians. Provides day-to-day support and analytical oversight of sample analysis, method development and troubleshooting. Contributes to general improvement initiatives such as procedure/method development, technician skill enhancement/training data review, error free reporting and/or integrated safety management systems
Responsibilities:
Assists FLM in supervising the activities of assigned laboratory personnel and ensures those activities are performed safely and in accordance with approved procedures Coaches, teaches, demonstrates, mentors, and provides technical and administrative expertise to laboratory technicians Provides analytical support for the sample analysis of radioactive samples and performs data check and peer review on data/LIMS sheets Assists Chemists in development, validation and verification of analytical methods and performs validation and verification of technical procedures in accordance with validated analytical methods Assists with the installation (with vendor when necessary), maintenance, troubleshooting of instrument, software, and laboratory facilities Responsible for requesting and receiving laboratory chemicals and performing periodic chemical inventory Responsible for preparing and maintaining reagents and standards for analytical methods Maintains ETF Qualification (if applicable) and Support Salt Batch Qualification (if applicable) Other duties as assigned
Qualifications:
High School Diploma with secondary education and/or relevant work experience; or Bachelor's Degree in Science or a related field and relevant work experience.
Additional information:
Completed SRMC Laboratory Technician Qualification for
DWPF/ETF
Laboratory or SWPF Laboratory (internal applicants) Ability to wear/use protective clothing and respiratory equipment when working in a radioactive environment.
Preferred Qualifications:
Bachelors degree Current SRMC employees preferred Mechanical aptitude, computer literacy, and strong interpersonal skills needed. Requires strong written and verbal communication ability as well as skills in leadership, planning and time management. Practical experience in laboratory techniques and familiarity of laboratory instrumentation
