Job Summary and Qualifications The Laboratory Assistant must be able to: Receive and process laboratory specimens Answer the telephone Inventory, receive and distribute laboratory supplies Load specimens on applicable instruments Prepare specimens for reference lab testing Receive reference lab testing reports. Assist Medical Lab Technicians and Medical Technologists as needed. Assessment and Care of Patients - the employee must be able to: Identify patients/specimens using 2 identifiers, patient name and account number. Receive and process laboratory and microbiology specimens, including centrifugation of specimens. Load bar coded specimens onto automated analyzers that are interfaced to the LIS. Prepare and package specimens and requests for reference lab testing. Demonstrate age specific assessment of patients based upon populations served. Communicate assessment findings to other team members as needed to support maximum patient outcomes. Coordinate patient care in a collaborative and interdisciplinary manner in order to meet patient's needs and goals. Provide education to patient and family, as appropriate, based upon identified needs. Infection Control - the employee must be able to: Comply with processes designed to reduce and/or prevent healthcare acquired infections. Use personal protective equipment per policy. Comply with hand hygiene policies. Use isolation precautions as indicated. Care of Patients- the employee must be able to: Demonstrate competency in all appropriate areas. Verify specimen integrity and reject unacceptable specimens. Collect blood specimens by appropriate method. Accurately label specimens at bedside. Deliver specimens to lab in a timely and efficient manner

Eligibility for benefits may vary by location. Parkridge Medical Center is a 270+ bed hospital. We are near downtown Chattanooga. We feature comprehensive diagnostic, medical, and surgical services. These services include cardiovascular surgery and cancer treatment. These services include intensive care, orthopedic and spine surgery, and rehabilitation.
