Marathon Petroleum Company LP has an opening for a Refining Laboratory Technician at its refinery located in El Paso, Texas. Performs standardized laboratory tests to determine chemical and physical characteristics or composition of solid, liquid, or gaseous hydrocarbons and water samples for quality and process control.

RESPONSIBILITIES
Testing of refining feedstock and intermediates to assist with daily refinery operations such as, but not limited to, gas chromatography analysis, octane testing, volatility, and physical properties. Providing timely and accurate data entry of lab results. Finished product testing to ensure compliance with industry standard specifications. Prepare chemical solutions according to standard formulas. Data interpreting and reporting. Applying QA/QC laboratory protocols to ensure high data accuracy and to monitor and assess precision of critical tests. Basic instrumentation troubleshooting and calibration skills Demonstrating competency in lab techniques with consistent and proper use of instrumentation, equipment, and glassware Executing work in a safe and environmentally responsible manner Inspects samples for contamination, homogeneity, and applicability of requested testing. Prepares samples for testing (filtration, dilution, and distribution to other areas of laboratory). Participating in proficiency testing programs in accordance with applicable standards and good laboratory practices. Attending all safety and laboratory training sessions and fulfill testing requirements. During scheduled shifts, be able to work by yourself in a safe manner. Demonstrating critical thinking and communication skills is mandatory. Other duties as assigned by supervisor. Ability to follow procedures/guidelines set forth by the American Society for Testing and Materials and EPA Regulatory methods Understand the fundamentals of a QA/QC system and basic knowledge of petroleum products
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Minimum Qualifications Bachelor's Degree in Chemistry or science equivalent with a minimum of 4 college level courses in Chemistry and 2 college level Chemistry labs required. (Education must be obtained/completed prior to start date) Working knowledge and application of wet chemistry. Adherence to a strict Drug and Alcohol policy. Willing to work 12-hour rotating shift schedule including weekends, nights, holidays, and overtime. Must be authorized to work in the US on a full-time indefinite basis without the need for employment visa sponsorship now or in the future. A valid driver's license is required. Preferred Qualifications 2 years related laboratory experience Laboratory Information Management Systems (LIMS) experience Ability to work both independently and with a team.
