The Laboratory Technician is responsible for the safe and efficient operation of the plant and the performance of ASTM laboratory tests on samples. This position requires an understanding of sand processing and testing techniques, as well as the ability to maintain equipment. The Technician will work closely with the Plant Manager and other team members to ensure that the plant and laboratory are running smoothly and that all tests and samples are accurate and meet industry standards, including compliance with MSHA regulations. Position Responsibilities These key duties include, but are not limited to: Adhere to all Texas Aggregates and MSHA rules and regulations at all times. Communicate with other team members to ensure that the plant is running at optimal capacity. Perform ASTM laboratory tests on samples, including sieve analysis, soil equivalency test, fineness modulus test and moisture content test. Record and maintain accurate laboratory and process data in accordance with company procedures. Follow all safety procedures and regulations. Participate in safety meetings and trainings. Perform other tasks as assigned by the Plant Manager. Assist with scheduled maintenance and major repairs. Perform daily inspections of the plant. Assist with cleaning parts, material, and equipment. Report needed repairs to the supervisor in a timely manner. Qualifications Lab or plant operator experience a plus High attention to details Ability to focus in active work environment Capable of climbing stairs and access ladders several times per day Capable of lifting up to 75 pounds Understand and comply with mining safety and environmental regulations Able to work and communicate with fellow employees This position requires standing, walking, bending, kneeling, stooping, crouching, crawling and climbing at times Pass pre-employment drug test Medical clearance to wear respiratory protection Must be at least 18 years of age Team-oriented, effective communicator (verbal and written), able to offer technical expertise and guidance, and have the ability and willingness to build rapport with team members and external agencies.
