• Job Summary and Qualifications
• As a Laboratory Assistant at our facility, you will be an integral part of our Laboratory team.

We are a highly functioning team that supports many different departments and has a passion for providing the best patient care through compassionate, professional interactions and reliable testing.

In this role:

• + •Collects blood samples ensuring proper patient identification and labeling of samples.
• + •Follows hospital policies and procedures for transporting/delivering samples to Laboratory.
• + •Receives specimens into computer system and delivers them to the appropriate areas of the lab for testing.
• + •Maintains strict quality control for procedures.
• + •May perform special tests such as glucose tolerance tests.
• + •Streaking plates for microbiology set up, perform and report specific waived testing.
• + •Maintains records of tests performed and blood samples taken.
• + •Maintains needed equipment and supplies.
• + •Provides age and culturally appropriate care.
• + •Orients and mentors new staff members.
• + •Follows Standard Precautions using personal protective equipment as required.
• + •You will provide courteous and caring customer service and support to patients, family members, physicians, and their office staff.
• + •You will order Laboratory tests and, when necessary, send specimens to a reference laboratory.
• + •You will verify documentation on incoming orders and maintain necessary logs.
• + •You will send test results of outpatients to the attending physician.
• + •You will train new employees and others in specimen receiving duties and responsibilities.

• Qualifications:

• + •Good computer skills; filing/clerical skills.
• + •Prior specimen receiving experience preferred.
• + •Phlebotomy experience preferred.
• + •Course in medical terminology preferred.
• + •Excellent communication skills.
• + •Valid driver's license.
