A Medical Laboratory Technician helps with the performance of laboratory tests in toxicology, chemistry, hematology, immunology, and microbiology laboratories, which provide information for medical patient diagnosis and treatment. Sets up, operates, and maintains laboratory equipment, makes observations, and calculates and records results; receives, types, tests, and records blood bank inventories.

- Job Summary and Qualifications
- As a Laboratory Assistant at our facility, you will be an integral part of our Laboratory team.
In this role:
- + •Collects blood samples ensuring proper patient identification and labeling of samples.
- + •Follows hospital policies and procedures for transporting/delivering samples to Laboratory.
- + •Receives specimens into computer system and delivers them to the appropriate areas of the lab for testing.
- + •Maintains strict quality control for procedures.
- + •May perform special tests such as glucose tolerance tests.
- + •Streaking plates for microbiology set up, perform and report specific waived testing.
- + •Maintains records of tests performed and blood samples taken.
- + •Maintains needed equipment and supplies.
- + •Provides age and culturally appropriate care.
- + •Orients and mentors new staff members.
- + •Follows Standard Precautions using personal protective equipment as required.
- + •You will provide courteous and caring customer service and support to patients, family members, physicians, and their office staff.
- + •You will order Laboratory tests and, when necessary, send specimens to a reference laboratory.
- + •You will verify documentation on incoming orders and maintain necessary logs.
- + •You will send test results of outpatients to the attending physician.
- + •You will train new employees and others in specimen receiving duties and responsibilities.
Qualifications:
- + •Good computer skills; filing/clerical skills.
- + •Prior specimen receiving experience preferred.
- + •Phlebotomy experience preferred.
- + •Course in medical terminology preferred.
- + •Excellent communication skills.
- + •Valid driver's license.
