A Sleep Laboratory Technician, also known as a polysomnographic technician, performs tests and collects data on patients with sleep disorders. Responsible for giving patients explanations of the impending sleep tests and procedures, preparing equipment for the procedures, recording activities and analyzing results - all while working under the advisement of a clinical director and/or sleep technologist.

RPSGT:
Reviews the patient's history and verifies the medical order. Follow sleep center protocols related to the sleep study. Verify patient's credentials upon arrival, collect documents and obtain consent for the study. Explain the procedure and orient the patient for either in the center or out of the center sleep testing. Select appropriate equipment and calibrate for testing to determine proper functioning and make adjustments as necessary. Program, or equivalent program, a Respiratory Care Program with sleep diagnostic academia or have the NBRC sleep endorsements.Additional requirements include:
American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) certification Critical thinking skills, decisive judgment and the ability to work with minimal supervision. Must be able to work in a stressful environment and take appropriate action. Basic computer operations and understanding, including Microsoft Office applications.
