MEDICAL LABORATORY TECHNICIAN
within theBLOOD BANK

Education:
Graduate from a medical laboratory technician training program accredited by the National Accrediting Agency for Clinical Laboratory Sciences (NAACLS) or the Accrediting Bureau of Health Education Schools (ABHES) or educational program acceptable to the American Medical Technologist (AMT). Certification in addition toBasic Life Support:
BLS Certification through American Heart Association or American Red Cross Experience Possess three years of blood bank experience as a Medical Laboratory Technologist within the last five years.Licensure/Registration:
Current certification and registration as a Medical Technologist by the American Society of Clinical Pathologists (MT-ASCP).OR 5.2.1.3.1.2.
Current certification and registration as a Medical Technologist by the American Medical Technologists (MT-AMT). Job duties may include but are not limited to:- Enter and certify laboratory results into Lifetrak/MHS Genesis.
- Instruct medical laboratory technicians, residents, and others in laboratory policies and procedures.
- Provides leadership and technical oversight in all Blood Donor Center (BDC) processes including manufacturing, Inventory control, and Drive team to achieve quality while meeting customer service requirements; continuously strives for the assurance that products and services produced and provided are safe and effective for their intended use.
- Conducts quality control (QC) review in accordance with accreditation standards, local policies and standard operating procedures.
- Complies with all SOPS when performing patient testing to ensure accurate test results are reported. Reports results accurately in the Laboratory Information System and Blood Establishment Computer System.
- Ensures documentation of all blood and blood components is complete and acceptable per SOP prior to issuing product(s). Performs required checks on all blood and blood products that are issued for transfusion per SOPS and takes corrective action(s) when discrepancies are identified.
- Initiates and completes all training and competency assessments at required intervals per standard operating procedures (SOPs). Maintains active Medical Laboratory Technologist (MT) certification by completing required continuing education units (CEUs) determined by certification agency (i.e., American Society for Clinical Pathology, etc.).
- Complies with AABB, CAP, FDA, TJC and other applicable standards and regulations.
