Registered Nurse (RN)/Licensed Practical/Vocational Nurse

Shift:

6:00am

  • 6:00pm; 6:00pm
  • 6:00am; 12-Hour Rotating
  • Salary Range: RN
  • 34•40/hr; LPN•$24-30/hr

About the Role Are you looking for a nursing specialty that offers true autonomy, predictable scheduling, and a chance to make an impact where it is needed most? We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Correctional Nurse to join our healthcare team at the Limestone County Detention Facility. In this role, you will operate much like an urgent care or community health nurse, providing critical medical evaluations, emergency responses, and daily care in a highly structured, secure environment. Correctional nursing relies heavily on your sharp clinical assessment skills, making it one of the most rewarding and dynamic autonomous nursing pathways available.

What You Will Do Intake & Triage:

Conduct initial health screenings for newly admitted individuals to evaluate physical, mental, and behavioral health needs.

Direct Patient Care:

Perform daily sick calls, assess patient concerns, treat minor injuries, administer wound care, and respond to facility medical emergencies.

Medication Administration:

Oversee daily "pill call" and ensure accurate, safe distribution of prescribed medications.

Chronic Disease Management:

Partner with physicians and practitioners to develop and implement care plans for chronic or ongoing health conditions.

Collaboration & Documentation:

Maintain detailed, compliant medical records while collaborating closely with custody staff to ensure facility safety and security protocols are upheld. Job Requirements License:

Active, unrestricted [

RN / LPN

] license in the state of in Alabama or Compact License.

Certification:

Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.

Experience:

Prior experience in emergency, urgent care, med-surg, or behavioral health is highly valued. Previous correctional experience is welcomed but not required—we will train the right candidate!

Skills:

Strong clinical assessment skills, critical thinking, and the ability to maintain professional boundaries. Must be able to pass a background check to gain access to the facility.

Pay:

$24.00
