Initiates and facilitates the first emergency response in accordance with facility policy. Follow established infection prevention and control procedures. Follow established procedures in the use and disposal of personal protective equipment (PPE). Follow established safety precautions in the performance of all duties. Report all hazardous conditions and equipment to the director of nursing. Prepares incident reports and reports safety violations in accordance with facility policy. Report any communicable or infectious disease to the Director of Nursing and/or Infection Preventionist. Report missing/illegible labels and safety data sheets (SDSs) to the supervisor. Report defective equipment to the director of nursing; utilize lockout/tagout as directed. Working Conditions __________________________________________________________ Works throughout the nursing services/household areas. Moves intermittently during working hours. Subject to frequent interruptions. Involved with residents, personnel, visitors, government agencies/personnel, etc., under all conditions and circumstances. Subject to hostile and emotionally upset residents, family members, personnel, and visitors. Communicate effectively with nursing personnel and other department personnel. Works beyond normal working hours on weekends and holidays and in other positions temporarily when necessary to complete job assignments and meet deadlines. Subject to call back during emergency conditions (e.g., severe weather, evacuation, post-disaster, etc.). Attends and participates in continuing education programs. Subject to injury from falls, burns from equipment, odors, etc., throughout the workday as well as to reactions from dust, disinfectants, and other air contaminants. Subject to exposure to infectious waste, diseases, conditions, etc., including TB and the AIDS and Hepatitis B viruses. May be subject to the handling of and exposure to hazardous chemicals. Education and License Registered Nurse or LPN, graduated from an accredited School of Nursing having a current, valid, and unencumbered RN or LPN license from the Alabama Board of Nursing or possesses a multistate license. CPR Certification Experience and Qualifications Minimum of five-year's experience working as a registered nurse or LPN in a post-acute and/or long-term skilled care setting. Experience with MDS 3.0, CAA, and care planning processes a plus. Specific Requirements Must be able to read, write, speak, and understand the English language. Ability to adjust schedule if needed to meet fluctuating case load demands related to the facility's daily admission, transfer, and discharge schedule. Experience and comfort using an electronic medical record. Experience with PointClick Care a plus. Ability to effectively provide coaching and in-service training to other team members on RAI process. Must be a supportive team member, contribute to and be an example of teamwork and team concept. Must possess the ability to make independent decisions when circumstances warrant such action. Must possess the ability to deal tactfully with personnel, residents, family members, visitors, government agencies/personnel and the public. Must possess the ability and willingness to collaborate harmoniously with other personnel. Must demonstrate the ability to hold interdisciplinary team members accountable for timely and accurate completion of MDS assignments, CAAs and care plans. Must have patience, tact, cheerful disposition, and enthusiasm as well as the willingness to manage difficult residents and associates. Must be willing to seek out new methods and principles and be willing to incorporate them into existing nursing practices. Must be able to relate information concerning a resident's condition. Must not pose a direct threat to the health and safety of other individuals in the workplace. Physical and Sensory Requirements (with or without the aid of mechanical devices) Must be able to move intermittently throughout the workday. Must be able to speak and write the English language in an understandable manner. Must be able to cope with the mental and emotional stress of the position. Must be able to see and hear or use prosthetics that will enable these senses to function adequately to ensure that the duties and responsibilities of this position can be met. Must function independently and have flexibility, personal integrity, and the ability to collaborate effectively with residents, personnel, and support agencies. Must meet the general health requirements set forth by the policies of this facility. Must be able to relate to and work with the ill, disabled, elderly, emotionally upset and, at times, hostile people within the facility. Must be able to push, pull, move, and/or lift a minimum of 25 pounds to a minimum height of 5 feet and be able to push, pull, move, and/or carry such weight a minimum distance of 50 feet.
