Job Description

Description Join Vaughan Regional Medical Center in Selma, AL, a 175-bed, Joint Commission-accredited community hospital that serves as a critical healthcare hub in the region. Vaughan delivers a full complement of hospital services, including emergency care, to the Black Belt area of southern Alabama. Job Summary As supervised and delegated by a registered nurse, provides direct patient care in accordance with applicable scope and standards of practice. Provides direct patient care to patients using the nursing process in accordance with applicable scope and standards of practice. LPNs within the LPN Nursing Float Pool must be willing to work in Med/Surg, Pediatrics (Peds) and Obstetrics (OB)/Post-Partum. Essential Functions To perform this job, an individual must perform each essential function satisfactorily with or without a reasonable accommodation. Requires critical thinking skills, decisive judgment and the ability to work with minimal supervision. Must be able to work in a stressful environment and take appropriate action. Under the direction of an RN, contributes to the assessment of patients by collecting data for analysis by an RN. Performs plan of care interventions, including specimen collection and wound care. May administer medication. Documents patient care given. Assists RN with development of plan of care. Assists patients with performing activities of daily living, including personal hygiene, elimination, nutrition, and ambulation. Monitors, documents, and communicates patient's status and reactions to interventions with RN, physician, patient, and families. Works as an advocate for the physical and emotional well-being of the patient. Able to assist the RN during delivery, assist in the care of the post-partum patient, assist in the care of the GYN patient and assist in the care of the neonate. Qualifications Education Completion of a Practical Nursing program. Licenses/Certifications Basic Life Support (BLS) is required within 30 days of hire date Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS), Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS), and Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) is required within 6 months of hire date. As of June 20, 2024, PALS is required for OB Charge RN within 90 days as a new requirement. Current State LPN License required. Experience Previous experience as an LPN is not required but is preferred.
