Duties Administer services within the applicable scope of nursing practice, which may include: catheterization, tube feedings, suction, applying and changing dressings/bandages, packs, colostomy, and drainage bags, taking blood, giving massages and range of motion exercises, care for the dead/dying, etc., as appropriate and in accordance with applicable standards. Greet newly admitted residents upon admission and participate in the orientation of new residents/family members to the facility. Arrange for diagnostic and therapeutic services, as ordered by the physician, and in accordance with established procedures. Prepare and administer medications as ordered by the physician. Ensure that an adequate supply of floor stock medications, supplies, and equipment is on hand to meet the nursing needs of the residents. Receive and record orders, and document the prescribed treatments on the resident charts, and care plans as appropriate. Chart nurses' notes in a professional and appropriate manner that are timely, accurately and thoroughly reflect the care provided to the resident, as well as the resident's response to the care. Assist with other nursing functions assigned by the DON. Skills Strong understanding of patient care and medical terminology. Experience with medication administration and understanding of physiology knowledge. Proven ability to work effectively in an inpatient setting and provide compassionate care to patients of all ages, including pediatric patients. Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work collaboratively with healthcare professionals. Ability to maintain accurate records and participate in quality improvement initiatives. Familiarity with medical terminology and the ability to document patient information accurately. Ability to ventilate patients and manage airway devices. Knowledge of workers' compensation law and experience working in a nursing home setting. Other Specific Requirements Must provide evidence of being free of tuberculosis infection upon hire and as set forth by the policies of the facility. Must be able to read, write, speak and understand the English language. Must possess the ability to make independent decision when circumstances warrant such action. Must possess the ability to deal tactfully with personnel, residents, family members, visitors, government agencies/personnel, and the general public. Must be knowledgeable of nursing and medical practices and procedures, as well as laws, regulations, and guidelines that pertain to long-term care. Must possess leadership and supervisory ability and the willingness to work harmoniously with and supervise other personnel. Must have patience, tact, a cheerful disposition and enthusiasm, as well as the willingness to handle difficult residents.
