Job Summary Performs duties related to direct patient care under the supervision of physician, PA/NP and/or registered nurse. Duties include, but are not limited to, phlebotomy, administration of medication and vaccine injections, providing treatments and procedures for patients presenting for nurse visits (

Ex:

suture removal, wound packing, EKG), assist primary care nurse/medical assistant with: preparing room for procedures, placing patients in examination rooms, ascertaining vital signs and pertinent medical history information, assisting providers as directed in patient examination and/or treatment, and participates in patient education. Cleans and prepares instruments and stocks examination rooms. Charts in the electronic health record. Also responsible for supply ordering and maintaining IRIS and immunization inventory.

REQUIREMENTS

Education:

High school diploma or equivalent

Licensure/certification:

Medical Assistant certification from formal medical assistant program or current RN/LPN license in Iowa.

Previous Work Experience:

Previous medical assistant, RN/LPN experience working in a medical office preferred.

Skills:

Demonstrated ability to effectively communicate in English with people from diverse professional, educational and lifestyle backgrounds both orally and in writing. Ability to read and understand/follow written and verbal directions. Requires organizational and self motivational skills in prioritizing and managing multiple tasks. Must demonstrate ability to utilize effective decision-making and problem solving techniques. Ability to work independently and interdependently with the health care team. Ability to remain calm and professional in stressful situations and focused amid interruptions in a potentially fast paced environment.
