This role involves providing comprehensive, compassionate care to pediatric patients across various settings, including hospitals, clinics, and community-based environments. The ideal candidates will possess extensive pediatric nursing experience, including familiarity with EMR/EHR systems such as Epic and Cerner, and have a strong background in specialized areas like critical care, emergency medicine, and long-term care. This position offers an opportunity to work with a diverse patient population, including children with developmental disabilities, neonatal needs, and chronic health conditions. Responsibilities Conduct thorough patient assessments, including vital signs, physical examinations, and medical history documentation. Administer medications and injections accurately, including IV infusions and injections tailored for pediatric patients. Manage airway techniques and ventilator support when necessary, ensuring patient safety at all times. Perform specialized procedures such as suturing, catheterization (including Foley and other urinary catheters), tube feeding management, and sterile processing. Utilize EMR/EHR systems like Epic, Cerner, Athenahealth, or eClinicalWorks for accurate medical documentation and record keeping. Assist with diagnostic evaluations such as laboratory specimen collection/processing and sonography as needed. Provide age-specific nursing care for infants, toddlers, children with developmental disabilities, memory care needs, or those requiring hospice & palliative medicine services. Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams on discharge planning, case management, pain management strategies, and health coaching. Ensure infection control practices are strictly followed to maintain a safe environment for patients and staff. Support families through education on medication administration, nutrition plans including gastric lavage or tube feeding, and post-discharge care instructions. Qualifications Valid Pediatric RN or LPN license in Illinois. Minimum of 1 year of pediatric nursing experience; experience in critical care (ICU/PICU), emergency room (ER), neonatal intensive care (NICU), or hospital medicine is highly preferred. Proficiency with EMR/EHR systems such as Epic or Cerner; familiarity with
ICD-9/10
coding is advantageous. Experience working with children with disabilities or complex medical needs is desirable. Knowledge of infection control protocols and aseptic techniques essential for patient safety. Ability to perform advanced procedures such as IV insertions, phlebotomy, venipuncture, and sterile dressing changes confidently.
