Summary:
Provides personal care and basic nursing care and advanced tasks to patients assigned under the direct supervision of the RN Shift Supervisor. Incumbents are expected to perform all selected procedures for the Paramedic and tasks outlined and approved by the North Carolina Office of EMS and the North Carolina Board of Nursing.
Responsibilities:
1. Assist patients in and out of car and ambulance. Orients patient and families to room. Explains use of call light. Obtains and records patient's vital signs (BP, P, R), temperature, weight and other required admission data. Appropriately evaluates type and extent of personal care which may be required by the patient given their age, and developmental, physical and emotional status, and reports same to the RN. Makes basic evaluation of patient's personal care needs. 2. Ensures that required discharge and transfer tasks are accomplished in accordance with procedure. Transports patients without incident or accident due to failure to properly apply established safety procedures and precautions. 3. Follows established procedures for the delivery of personal care. Respects and protects the patient's privacy, dignity and cultural diversity at all times. Follows the Plan of Care with respect to the provision of personal care. Promptly and courteously accommodates requests made by patients with respect to personal care, ensuring that the RN/LPN is made aware of any requests which fall outside of the Plan of Care. 4. Makes rounds to assigned patients as per Standard for Routine Observation, reporting any unusual or adverse signs or symptoms to RN immediately. Responds to patients' needs within appropriate time of notification, and if unable to respond makes RN aware. Courteously and appropriately addresses patients' needs, ensuring that RN/LPN is make immediately aware of any requests which fall outside the Plan of Care, or the limitations of the paramedic. Accomplishes specified treatments, therapies, and clinical/technical procedures of the nursing care plan, and assists RN/LPN with examinations, treatments and procedures. 5. Follows Plan of Care with respect to clinical and therapeutic procedures. Properly and accurately records required information on appropriate records. Recognizes emergency situations and immediately notifies RN and assists as assigned. Follows instructions and/or carries out established procedures or protocols, when assisting licensed care providers.

    High School Diploma Licensure/Certification Requirements:
    • Current certification as EMT-P with the NC Office of Emergency Medical Services.
    • NIHSS Certification
    • ASLS Certification (Must obtain within 1 year of hire)
    • CPI Certification (Must obtain within 1 year of hire)
    • ACLS Certification (Must obtain within 1 year of hire)
    BCLS Certification Professional Experience Requirements:
    • 2 years of experience as paramedic
