Job Description

Job Purpose:
The Licensed Practical Nurse II is a care provider who assumes responsibility and accountability for his/her patients within the limits of his/her education and the Nurse Practice Act taking into account the individual patient's special physical or age-related needs. The limits of the Licensed Practical Nurse's responsibility are defined by hospital policy (see Generic Structure Standards) in keeping with the New York State Code, Rules and Regulations, and the NYS Education Department.
Education:
High school diploma or equivalent; graduation from an accredited Licensed Practical Nurse program or completion of required components to satisfy LPN licensing examination.
Licensure/Certification/Registration:
Possess current New York State license for Licensed Practical Nurse; American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) certification within six (6) months of transfer or hire. Completion of IV course, phlebotomy, blood administration course and EKG training within six (6) months of transfer or hire.
Experience:
None.
Preferred:
One (1) or more years experience in an acute care hospital or previous experience in an acute healthcare setting.
