Job Description

Job Purpose:
The Primary Care Services Licensed Practical Nurse is a care provider who assumes responsibility and accountability for his/her patients within the limits of their education and the Nurse Practice Act taking into account the individual patient's special physical or age-related needs. The limits of the Licensed Practical Nurse's responsibility is defined by Hospital policy in keeping with the New York State Code, Rules and Regulations and the New York State Education Department. Work is performed under the supervision of a Registered Nurse, Nurse Practitioner, Physician Assistant or Physician, hereinafter "Licensed Practitioner", in accordance with the state regulations for LPN's established Hospital, PCC and Nursing Department rules and regulations and the New York State Education Department, Nursing Department structure, process and outcome standards, established regulatory and accreditation requirements and the philosophy, goals and objectives of the Hospital, PCC and Nursing Department, taking into account the individual patient's special physical or age-related needs.
Education:
Possess a high school diploma or equivalent education. Graduation from an accredited Licensed Practical Nurse program or completion of required components to satisfy LPN licensing examination. Employee is trained to care for the age specific group served in their department.
Licensure/Certification/Registration:
Valid New York State registration as a Licensed Practical Nurse. Hospital approved certification in Intravenous Therapy procedures; Basic Life Support within sixty (60) days of hire.
Experience:
Possess current experience in venipuncture, administration of PFT's, EKG's, Nebulizer treatments, pulse oximetry and keyboarding. Possess free vaccine experience and familiarity with administering pediatric vaccinations.
Preferred:
Possess one (1) or more years' previous Physician Office experience or previous experience in an outpatient setting. Possess current experience with Lucius/Meditech software.
