A Licensed Practical Nurse or Vocational Nurse provides basic medical care under the direction of registered nurses and other healthcare specialists. The tasks that they are permitted to perform vary by state, but usually include changing bandages, checking blood pressure, or helping feed patients. May work in hospitals, nursing homes, or other healthcare facilities.
The Graduate Practical Nurse (GPN) delivers quality nursing care to patients through interpersonal contact and provides care and services to assure patient safety and attain or maintain the highest practicable physical, mental, and psychosocial well-being of each patient in accordance with all applicable laws, regulations, and Life Care standards.
Education, Experience, and Licensure Requirements:
Provide the facility in which they are practicing proof of the first authorization to take the NCLEX-PN and have graduated from an approved school of nursing within the previous 90 days. May engage in the practice of professional nursing without a license for a period not to exceed 120 calendar days from the date of receipt of the first authorization to take the
NCLEX-PN
examination. Must have CPR certification upon hire or obtain during orientation. CPR certification must remain current during employment.

Work within scope of practice as defined by the Tennessee Board of Nursing and facility standards Ability to make independent decisions when circumstances warrant such action Patience, tact, cheerful disposition, and enthusiasm as well as willingness to handle difficult patients Knowledgeable of nursing practices and procedures as well as the laws, regulations, and guidelines governing nursing functions in the post-acute care facility Implement and interpret the programs, goals, objectives, policies, and procedures of the nursing department Perform proficiently in all applicable competency areas Maintains professional working relationships with all associates, vendors, etc. Maintains confidentiality of all proprietary and/or confidential information Understand and follow company policies including harassment and compliance procedures Displays integrity and professionalism by adhering to Life Care's Code of Conduct and completes mandatory Code of Conduct and other appropriate compliance training
