St. David's Medical Center in Austin, TX is seeking a Licensed Vocational Nurse for our Ortho Med Surg unit. The LVN provides direct patient care, performs assessments, administers medications, and supports post-operative recovery for orthopedic and medical-surgical patients in a fast-paced acute care setting. Responsibilities Provide direct nursing care to orthopedic and medical-surgical patients, including assessments, wound care, and medication administration under RN/physician direction Monitor, document, and report patient status, vital signs, and responses to treatment using electronic medical records Collaborate with RNs, physicians, therapists, and support staff to implement individualized care plans Educate patients and families on post-operative care, mobility, pain management, and discharge instructions Support a safe environment by following infection control, fall prevention, and hospital safety protocols Assist with admissions, transfers, and discharges, ensuring accurate documentation and smooth patient flow Operate and maintain clinical equipment commonly used in ortho/med-surg settings Participate in interdisciplinary rounds and contribute to care planning and quality improvement initiatives Respond promptly to patient needs, call lights, and changes in condition in a fast-paced acute care unit Maintain professional development through ongoing education, training, and competency validation Required Skills Orthopedic nursing care Medical-surgical nursing Medication administration Vital signs monitoring Wound care and dressing changes Electronic Medical Records (EMR) documentation Patient and family education Infection control and safety protocols IV therapy and line management Post-operative care and pain management
