Job Duties and Preferred Qualifications :
The City of Virginia Beach Department of Human Services is seeking to hire a Licensed Practical Nurse who has nursing experience working with adults with mental health, substance use or co-occurring disorders in an outpatient or inpatient behavioral health setting for the Adult Outpatient Services program. This position is Part Time, 30 hours per week.
Responsibilities:
Designated as clinic site Medication Room Nurse, responsible for following the guidelines necessary to maintain the Virginia State Board of Pharmacy Controlled Substance Registration and ensure compliance with Medication Room policies. Process prescription prior authorizations, coordinate with patient assistance program staff, and ensure stored medications are available as needed. Document client interactions in the electronic health record (EHR), and document follow up with pharmacies, clients, and providers between appointments to ensure continuity of care. Provide nursing services to adults with mental health, substance use or co-occurring disorders who are receiving medication management in an outpatient setting to include ongoing assessments, crisis intervention, medication education and management. Provide preparation for prescriber visits, including administration of injectable medications and vital signs. Complete nursing procedures (e.g., venipuncture, urine drug screens, and breathalyzer) as directed by the prescriber. Collaborate with clinic nursing team to manage client requests and walk ins outside of scheduled appointments.
Preferences:
Two (2) or more years of nursing experience working with adults in a behavioral health setting. One (1) or more years of experience administering medications to adults with severe mental illnesses and / or substance use disorders. One (1) or more years of experience documenting nursing services in an electronic health record. One (1) or more years of experience performing nursing procedures (e.g., venipuncture, blood pressure, injection administration). Experience as a medication room nurse responsible for maintaining compliance with regulatory boards. Experience working with physicians and pharmacies to manage prescription prior authorizations. Experience with proficient use of MS Office products (Teams, Excel, Outlook, Word, etc.) Additional requirements:

Minimum Qualifications:
Possession of a current and valid license issued by the State of Virginia or as a part of the Compact Designation (Multi-State Privileges) as a Licensed Practical Nurse and one (1) or more years of experience as a Licensed Practical Nurse to be specified by the hiring department. Current CPR certification. Must have a current and valid driver's license.
Special Requirements:
All employees may be expected to work hours in excess of their normally scheduled hours in response to short-term department needs and/or City-wide emergencies.

E VRS Contribution :
