We are seeking a compassionate and dependable Licensed Massage Therapist to provide gentle, comfort-focused massage therapy to hospice patients in their homes, assisted living facilities, skilled nursing facilities, and other residential settings. Position Summary The Hospice Licensed Massage Therapist provides gentle palliative massage and other comfort-focused techniques to patients with life-limiting illnesses. Massage therapy in the hospice setting is intended to support relaxation, comfort, emotional well-being, and quality of life. Treatments are adapted to each patient's medical condition, tolerance, preferences, and plan of care. This position works collaboratively with the hospice interdisciplinary team and provides services within the therapist's professional scope of practice. Responsibilities Provide gentle palliative and therapeutic massage to hospice patients. Adapt massage techniques for frail, elderly, medically complex, or terminally ill patients. Use soft, non-invasive techniques appropriate for patients with limited mobility, fragile skin, pain, edema, weakness, or other medical conditions. Promote comfort, relaxation, and emotional well-being. Assess patient comfort and tolerance throughout each session. Discontinue or modify treatment if a patient experiences discomfort or a change in condition. Communicate significant observations or concerns to the hospice clinical team. Collaborate with nurses, social workers, chaplains, aides, physicians, nurse practitioners, and other interdisciplinary team members. Document visits and patient responses according to agency policy. Maintain patient confidentiality and comply with HIPAA requirements. Follow infection-control, safety, and professional-boundary policies. Respect each patient's cultural, spiritual, personal, and end-of-life preferences. Provide supportive and compassionate interaction with patients and caregivers. Preferred Experience Experience or certification in any of the following is highly valued: Hospice or palliative massage Geriatric massage Oncology massage Reiki Therapeutic touch Aromatherapy Essential oil safety Relaxation or mindfulness techniques Experience working with medically fragile or terminally ill patients Qualifications Current Michigan Massage Therapist license required. Graduate of an accredited massage therapy program. Experience working with elderly, medically complex, palliative care, or hospice patients preferred. Understanding of appropriate massage techniques and contraindications for medically fragile patients. Compassionate and comfortable working with individuals and families experiencing terminal illness, grief, and end-of-life care. Strong communication and interpersonal skills. Reliable transportation and ability to travel to patient locations. Ability to work independently while collaborating with the hospice interdisciplinary team. Must complete all agency-required onboarding, orientation, health screening, background checks, and compliance requirements. Schedule PRN / Per Diem Visits are scheduled based on patient needs, therapist availability, and the hospice plan of care. Compensation $55 per completed visit plus mileage reimbursement. Additional compensation may be considered based on hospice experience, advanced massage certifications, Reiki certification, or other complementary therapy credentials.
