It is not a full-time position , and regular or guaranteed hours are not available. The selected candidate must have a flexible schedule and be willing to work when needed to cover employee absences, vacations, call-outs, staffing shortages, increased patient volume and other operational needs. Position Summary Avalon Medical Group is seeking a dependable, hardworking and knowledgeable Certified Medical Assistant to join our clinical team in a PRN float capacity. Applicants must hold a current Medical Assistant certification and have at least two years of hands-on Medical Assistant experience . Experience in Family Medicine, Primary Care, Urgent Care or an Emergency Room setting is strongly preferred . The PRN Float Medical Assistant will provide clinical coverage wherever staffing and patient-care needs are greatest. This position requires someone who can transition confidently between providers, pods and departments; quickly adapt to different clinical workflows; and consistently provide professional, compassionate and efficient patient care. This is not an entry-level position. We need an experienced Medical Assistant who possesses strong clinical skills, requires minimal supervision and can step into an assignment prepared to contribute immediately. Compassion Care Community Minimum Requirements Applicants must meet all of the following requirements: Current Medical Assistant certification from a recognized certifying organization, such as CMA, RMA, CCMA or NCMA. Minimum of two years of recent, hands-on Medical Assistant experience in a clinical setting. Willingness and ability to work on a PRN, as-needed basis. Flexibility to accept varying workdays, hours and assignments based on staffing needs. Willingness to float between assigned physicians, pods, departments and Avalon locations. Ability to adapt quickly to different providers, patient populations and clinical workflows. Strong knowledge of medical terminology, clinical procedures and infection-control practices. Experience obtaining accurate vital signs, reviewing patient information and documenting clinical information properly. Experience administering injections and performing EKGs. Strong computer skills and experience using an electronic health record system. Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Ability to maintain patient confidentiality and comply with HIPAA requirements. Consistent reliability, punctuality and professional conduct. Ability to work independently while remaining a collaborative member of the clinical team. Applicants who do not possess both a current Medical Assistant certification and at least two years of Medical Assistant experience will not be considered. PRN and Scheduling Expectations The selected candidate must understand and agree that: This position is PRN only and is not full-time . Work hours are based entirely on Avalon Medical Group's staffing and operational needs. A minimum number of hours is not guaranteed. The weekly schedule may vary significantly. Assignments may involve different physicians, pods, departments or Avalon locations. Availability during employee vacations, call-outs and unexpected staffing shortages is an important part of this position. The employee must respond promptly when contacted regarding available assignments. Accepting a PRN position does not guarantee future full-time employment. Dependability is essential. Once an assignment is accepted, the employee is expected to report on time and complete the scheduled shift. Preferred Experience Preference will be given to candidates with experience in one or more of the following settings: Family Medicine Primary Care Urgent Care Emergency Room Internal Medicine High-volume outpatient medical practice Float-pool or multi-provider clinical coverage Essential Duties and Responsibilities Provide clinical coverage for assigned physicians, pods, departments or locations based on operational needs. Adjust promptly and professionally when daily assignments change. Learn and follow the established workflow and preferences of each assigned physician or clinical area. Prepare patients for examinations, treatments and procedures. Obtain and accurately document patient medical histories, symptoms, medications, allergies and other relevant clinical information. Measure and record vital signs, including blood pressure, pulse, temperature, respirations, oxygen saturation, height and weight. Review patient information and promptly notify the physician of abnormal findings or urgent concerns. Prepare examination rooms and ensure necessary supplies and equipment are available. Assist physicians and other licensed medical professionals with examinations, treatments and diagnostic or therapeutic procedures. Administer injections and medications as ordered and permitted within the Medical Assistant's scope of practice. Perform EKGs and other assigned clinical tests accurately. Prepare specimens and assist with laboratory procedures according to established protocols. Follow infection-control, sanitation, sharps-safety and clinical-cleaning requirements. Provide physician-approved patient education regarding medications, testing, health maintenance and disease prevention. Process medication prior authorizations and maintain appropriate supporting documentation. Communicate professionally with patients by telephone and approved HIPAA-compliant messaging systems. Route patient concerns to the appropriate physician or licensed medical professional. Communicate physician-reviewed laboratory and imaging results, refill information and follow-up instructions according to established procedures. Assist with medication refill requests and ensure requests are routed and documented properly. Maintain complete, accurate and timely documentation in the electronic health record. Coordinate referrals, follow-up appointments, diagnostic testing and other patient-care needs as assigned. Maintain clinical supplies and promptly report supply needs. Protect patient privacy and confidentiality at all times. Perform additional clinical and administrative duties as assigned.
