Job Description

Position Summary The Medical Assistant (MA) provides clinical and administrative support to licensed healthcare providers in an outpatient clinic setting in accordance with California law. The MA performs delegated clinical tasks under the direct or general supervision of a licensed provider, supports efficient patient flow, and contributes to high-quality, compliant patient care. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Prepare patients for examinations by obtaining and documenting vital signs, medical histories, medication reconciliation, and chief complaints Assist providers during examinations and procedures within the Medical Assistant scope of practice under California law Administer medications and injections only as ordered by a licensed provider and permitted by California regulations Perform point-of-care testing, specimen collection, EKGs, and other clinical tasks as trained and authorized Prepare and maintain exam rooms, including stocking supplies and following infection control protocols Accurately document patient care and clinical activities in the electronic health record (EHR) Explain procedures, treatments, and follow-up instructions to patients in a clear and respectful manner Support culturally competent care for a diverse patient population Maintain patient confidentiality in compliance with HIPAA and state privacy laws Assist with referrals, authorizations, and appointment coordination as assigned Support care coordination, follow-up calls, and documentation Ensure required forms and clinical documentation are completed accurately and timely Perform duties in compliance with California Medical Board regulations, clinic policies, and clinical protocols Adhere to OSHA, infection control, and workplace safety standards Participate in required trainings, competencies, and quality improvement activities All other duties, as assigned.
Qualifications Required:
High school diploma or equivalent Medical Assistant certification Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
Preferred:
Minimal 2 years of experience Experience working in a California outpatient clinic or FQHC Experience with immunizations, injections, EKGs, and point-of-care testing Familiarity with EHR systems Bilingual in English and Spanish Skills and Competencies Strong clinical skills within MA scope of practice Attention to detail and accuracy Excellent communication and interpersonal skills Ability to multitask in a fast-paced clinical environment Professionalism, dependability, and teamwork Physical and Work Requirements Ability to stand, walk, bend, and assist patients throughout the clinic day Ability to lift up to 25 pounds Ability to work scheduled clinic hours, including evenings or weekends as required Compliance & Employment Requirements Must comply with all applicable federal, state, and local laws and regulations Must adhere to clinic policies related to attendance, confidentiality, safety, and professional conduct Employment is contingent upon meeting all credentialing, background, and health clearance requirements
