Stocking Orthopedics Certified Medical Assistant Full Job Description SUMMARY:
The Medical Assistant works cooperatively with other members of SCOI. Assists in the examination and treatment of patients under direction of the physician and/or Manager, of Clinical Services by performing the essential functions of the job. Travel between SCOI locations will be required.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Reports to work as scheduled. Complies with SCOI policies and procedures. Works cooperatively with others and acts in a way to support the SCOI mission statement. Obtains patient medical history. Measures vital signs such as pulse rate, temperature, blood pressure, weight and height, obtains allergy information and records information on the chart. Assists physician with special procedures as required and prepares set-up for injections, aspiration and other procedures. Phlebotomy Certification is a PLUS! Removes sutures, cleans wounds and applies dressings. Instructs patients as directed by the physician. Schedules return appointments when needed. Schedules MRI as needed. Coordinates and tracks the scheduling and results of patient PT and diagnostic testing. Enters patient prescriptions into SRS as authorized by physician and as per protocol.
Note:
Cannot sign physician name to any documents or prescriptions. Provides physician with necessary instruments and materials during exam. Stocks exam rooms regularly with materials and supplies prior to the beginning of clinic. Cleans up exam rooms after clinic. Maintains biohazard and sharps container according to SCOI procedure and guidelines. Educates patients in the use of casts, braces and crutches and assists them as necessary. May be responsible for cast application/removal if physician protocol warrants. Maintains linen supply, depositing gowns, lab coats and shorts in designated hampers for pick up and cleaning. Sterilizes instruments following SCOI procedures and guidelines. Inputs work comp status sheets into computer as needed. Responsible for providing Billing with daily appointment report. Reports compliance issues or concerns immediately to supervisor. Traveling between SCOI locations is required. Other duties as assigned.
