ABOUT WELL&YOU RURALREACH

Well&You RuralReach will open four permanent satellite clinics across Northeast Florida, including rural Baker and Nassau counties, bringing chronic disease management, vascular and limb-salvage care, cardiac monitoring, women's health, and non-opioid pain care to residents who now drive 35 to 40 miles for specialty care. In communities where heart disease, diabetes, stroke, and amputation rates run well above Florida's average, this award turns Well&You's long-standing local roots and relationships into permanent access points for care. Staffed by board-certified physicians and APRNs, these clinics will build sustainable rural health infrastructure and bring a better way to care to rural Northeast Florida.

Job Summary:

Medical Assistants are the clinical backbone of our rural sites. This role supports our providers through both clinical and administrative work — preparing patients, assisting with procedures, managing records, and keeping the day moving — and does so at satellite rural clinics and community outreach events where the Medical Assistant is frequently the only clinical support staff on site.

That independence is the job:

this position requires an experienced Medical Assistant with a broad clinical foundation across vein, cardiovascular, and pain service lines, the judgment to resolve day-of problems, and the initiative to anticipate what a remote site will need before it needs it. The Medical Assistant works closely with physicians, nurses, Registered Vascular Technologists, patient navigators, and other healthcare professionals to deliver high-quality patient care wherever that care is delivered.

Duties/Responsibilities:

Assist medical and/or nursing staff in the examination and treatment of patients Maintain stocks of medical supplies as necessary in the exam rooms Educate and advise patients on medical issues within established parameters Practice safety, environmental, and/or infection control methods Assist in examination and treatment of patients under the direction of a physician Interview patients, measures vital signs, and records information Instrument cleaning and autoclave cleaning Update medical history Prepare treatment rooms for examination of patients. Scribe and putting in orders for providers while in room with patients Assist the supervisor as unusual problems arise Rooming patients by taking vitals Suture and staple removal; and wound care Compression stockings measurements Prep charts and get medical records for future patients to see the physician Serve as the primary clinical support at rural satellite clinic sites, independently managing room turnover, patient flow, instrument processing, and provider support with limited or no on-site backup. Travel to assigned rural clinic locations and community outreach and screening events; transport, set up, stock, and break down supplies and equipment. Anticipate and resolve day-of issues at remote sites — supply gaps, equipment failures, schedule holes, add-on patients, missing records — escalating only what genuinely requires a provider or manager. Own inventory and par levels for assigned rural sites, ordering far enough ahead that a supply shortage never cancels a patient's visit. Support telehealth and remote provider encounters at rural sites: prepare the patient, establish the connection, present clinical data, and complete resulting orders accurately. Prepare rural patients traveling long distances for same-trip care by confirming records, imaging, medications, and pre-visit requirements in advance. Identify patients facing transportation, coverage, caregiver, or access barriers and connect them to patient navigation and community resources. Capture complete and accurate demographic, screening, and outcome data required for rural health grant reporting. Cross-cover front-office functions at small rural sites where roles overlap, including check-in, scheduling, and medical records requests.

Required Skills/Abilities:

Knowledge of patient evaluation and triage procedures Skill in listening to and understanding oral and written communication Experience performing standard clinical procedures per established protocols Experience maintaining quality, safety, and/or infection control standards Ability to educate patients and/or families as to the nature of disease and to provide instruction on proper care and treatment. Experience understanding and following oral and written instructions Knowledge of standard concepts, practices, and procedures in the vascular field. Strong problem-solving instincts and sound judgment about what to handle, what to work around, and what to escalate. Broad clinical knowledge foundation spanning multiple specialty service lines, including vein, cardiovascular, and pain management. Self-starting and resourceful; comfortable operating with fewer resources than a large facility provides and finding a safe, compliant path forward. Comfort with a variable daily assignment, wide scope, and frequent changes in location and provider. Cultural competence and ease with rural patient populations, including patients with limited health literacy, long-standing gaps in care, or distrust of the healthcare system. Working proficiency with telehealth workflows and remote EHR documentation over variable connectivity. Willingness and ability to travel to rural clinic sites and outreach events on a regular basis.

Education and Experience:

3+ years of hands-on Medical Assistant experience in a clinical setting; multi-specialty or procedural experience strongly preferred Medical Assistant certificate or diploma preferred; current BLS certification preferred Experience in a rural clinic, satellite or mobile site, FQHC, rural health clinic, or critical access setting strongly preferred Demonstrated history of working independently with minimal on-site supervision Valid Florida driver's license, reliable transportation, and willingness to travel to rural sites and outreach events

Physical Requirements:

Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer. Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times. Regular travel between the Jacksonville area and rural clinic sites, including some early start times and occasional evening or weekend outreach events. Must be able to load, transport, and set up portable equipment, supplies, and event materials for offsite clinics and community screening events. Must be able to work productively in smaller rural facilities and temporary event spaces with limited support staff on site.
