Job Overview The Medical Assistant at FC Outreach (FCO) provides clinical and administrative support to the Advanced Registered Nurse Practitioner (ARNP) in a child welfare setting. This position is responsible for assisting with medical evaluations, collecting and processing urinalysis specimens, collecting and processing DNA specimens, maintaining health records, coordinating healthcare services, and supporting the overall physical health needs of children and youth involved in the child welfare system. The Medical Assistant works closely with healthcare providers, case management staff, foster parents, caregivers, parents/guardians, and community partners to ensure quality, timely, and trauma-informed healthcare services.
Primary Job functions:
Urinalysis Collection and Processing Collect urine specimens following established protocols and chain-of-custody procedures when required. Perform routine urinalysis testing and accurately document results. Prepare specimens for laboratory analysis and ensure proper labeling, handling, and transportation. Maintain confidentiality and integrity of testing procedures. Monitor inventory of collection supplies and testing materials. Clinical Support to ARNP Prepare children and youth for medical visits by obtaining vital signs, height, weight, and relevant health information. Assist the ARNP during medical assessments, screenings, and examinations. Document patient information accurately in electronic health records. Prepare examination rooms, equipment, and supplies before and after patient encounters. Schedule follow-up appointments and communicate care instructions to caregivers and caseworkers. Child Welfare Health Coordination Assist in coordinating medical, dental, behavioral health, and specialty care appointments for children and youth. Track health screenings, immunizations, and required medical evaluations. Obtain and maintain medical records from hospitals, clinics, and healthcare providers. Support compliance with state child welfare health requirements and agency policies. Communicate health-related information to caregivers, foster parents, case managers, and service providers as appropriate. Other duties as required. Documentation and Recordkeeping Maintain accurate, timely, and confidential medical records. Enter laboratory and urinalysis results into electronic health systems. Ensure compliance with HIPAA, child welfare regulations, and agency confidentiality standards. Collaboration and Support Collaborate with ARNPs, nurses, physicians, social workers, case managers, and caregivers. Participate in multidisciplinary staffing and case consultation meetings. Support the implementation of trauma-informed and child-centered healthcare practices. Provide exceptional customer service to children, families, caregivers, and community partners. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Knowledge of medical terminology, laboratory procedures, and clinical protocols. Ability to collect and process urine specimens accurately and professionally. Understanding of pediatric and adolescent healthcare needs. Familiarity with electronic health records and data entry systems. Strong organizational skills and attention to detail. Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Ability to maintain strict confidentiality. Ability to work effectively with diverse populations and multidisciplinary teams. Demonstrated sensitivity to trauma, abuse, neglect, and family dynamics. Physical Requirements Ability to stand, walk, bend, and sit for extended periods. Ability to lift and carry up to 25 pounds. - High School Diploma
- Current Medical Assistant Certification (CMA, RMA, CCMA, or equivalent) preferred.
- CPR/First Aid Certification
- Must have a good working knowledge of computer systems and MS Office, Word, Excel, and Outlook.
- Must be able to pass a clearance / background check or have an exemption to work with at risks populations.
Pay:
$15.00 - $16.00 per hour Expected hours: No more than 40.0 per week
