The Medical Assistant plays a vital role in delivering an exceptional patient experience by supporting physicians and advanced practice providers in the care of patients with kidney disease, hypertension, and related medical conditions. The ideal candidate is a team player who enjoys working directly with patients, has strong attention to detail, and thrives in a fast-paced healthcare environment. Essential Responsibilities Patient Care Room patients and prepare them for provider visits. Obtain and document vital signs, medical history, medication lists, allergies, and chief complaints. Review and update patient demographic and insurance information. Assist providers during examinations and procedures as needed. Provide patient education and reinforce physician treatment plans. Support patients and families with professionalism, empathy, and respect. Clinical Support Perform point-of-care testing as permitted by training and practice protocols. Administer injections and medications as authorized by provider orders and state regulations. Collect and prepare lab specimens. Coordinate laboratory, imaging, and specialty referrals. Review and complete prescription refill requests according to office protocols. Assist with chronic care management and population health initiatives. Documentation & Electronic Medical Records Accurately document patient information within the electronic medical record (EMR). Maintain timely and complete clinical documentation. Assist providers in obtaining outside medical records, laboratory results, and hospital documentation. Practice Operations Prepare exam rooms and maintain adequate clinical supplies. Clean and disinfect equipment and patient care areas according to infection control standards. Assist with scheduling and patient flow management. Answer patient phone calls and portal messages as directed. Support quality improvement initiatives and compliance requirements. Teamwork & Professionalism Collaborate effectively with physicians, nurse practitioners, physician assistants, nurses, and administrative staff. Demonstrate a positive attitude and commitment to excellent customer service. Maintain patient confidentiality and HIPAA compliance at all times. Participate in staff meetings and training opportunities. Qualifications Required High school diploma or equivalent. Current Medical Assistant certification or completion of an accredited Medical Assistant program. Basic clinical and computer skills. Strong communication and interpersonal skills. Ability to multi-task and prioritize responsibilities in a busy practice environment. Preferred One or more years of experience in a physician practice or outpatient clinic. Experience with EMR systems preferably Epic and eClinicalWorks. Experience in nephrology, internal medicine, family medicine, or specialty practice settings. Phlebotomy experience. Physical Requirements Ability to stand and walk for extended periods. Ability to lift up to 25 pounds. Ability to assist patients with mobility as needed. Frequent bending, reaching, and repetitive hand movements.
