POSITION SUMMARY
​The Anatomic Pathology Laboratory Assistant performs various technical and clerical functions involving Anatomic Pathology specimen handling and processing. Functions include specimen accessioning and patient demographic entry into the Laboratory Information System, accurate identification and labeling of specimens, review of submitted samples in order to assess and document quantity and quality of pre-analytic specimens and independent selection of optimal specimen processing technique based on requested testing. Position is responsible for all internal specimen logistics within the Laboratory and is required to maintain appropriate specimen storage post analytic testing. Position also assists with preparing specimens for internal and external referral to specialty departments or reference laboratories, ensuring that testing material is available in a timely manner. REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
Education:
High School/GED Other skills/knowledge: Excellent interpersonal and communication skills. Solid computer skills, including proficiency with Microsoft software.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Experience:
1 year full time laboratory experience or equivalent to Laboratory Assistant duties. Excellent attention to detail to ensure accurate labeling of patient specimens. Analytical skills necessary to interpret and determine appropriate specimen preparation method, and to evaluate suitability of slides and stains produced.
