Renders professional care for the comfort and wellbeing of the patients. Prepares equipment and assists physician during examinations and treatments, changes dressings, cleans wounds, and records patient's vital signs as well as provides patient education.
Key Areas of Responsibility:
I. DIRECT PT CONTACT
1. Places all patients in rooms and provide assistance as needed with examinations. 2. Obtains and reviews health history, and vital signs, etc. 3. Provides patient education as needed. 4. Replaces bandages and/or dressings as needed. 5. Arranges home health care as needed. 6. Explains test to patients as needed. 7. Answers all questions in office or phone regarding medications and refills, problems, test results, post operative care and any questions to ask doctor.
II. COMPUTER/RECORDS
1. Enters allergies, medications, social habits, and vital signs on each patient seen into EHR. 2. Checks for all test results and any other correspondence needed for visit before doctor sees patient. 3. Enters data into computer system to maintain accurate records for program certifications.
III. MAINTAINCE
1. Stocks supplies for all rooms. 2. Orders supplies as needed. 3. Disposes of hazardous waste. 4. Sterilizes all instruments. 5. Keeps rooms clean and ready for next patient to be seen. 6. Checks sample drugs for expiration dates.
IV. MISCELLANEOUS
1. Answers telephone using proper telephone courtesy, taking and delivering messages in an accurate and timely manner. 2 . Performs activities with efficiency and speed. 3 . Assists patients, visitor, staff and physicians utilizing good guest relations. 4 . Attends staff meetings and educational opportunities. 5 . Maintains all required certifications. Performs efficiently in emergency situations. 6 . Prioritizes job responsibilities to facilitate optimum quality of patient care. 7 . Demonstrates flexibility in meeting the needs of the practice. 8 . Maintains patient confidentiality at all times.
HIPPA Compliance:
The MA will have access to all labs, all x-rays, test results, and health history.
Minimum Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
1. Maintain certification through employment. (CMA/RMA) 2. Demonstrates interpersonal communication skills required to facilitate effective interaction with a variety of health care professionals. 3. Demonstrates clerical skills, including keyboarding and familiarity with software programs such as the practice's Intergy System. 4. Ability to concentrate in a busy environment, and to give attention to details. 5. Ability to function productively under stressful, demanding conditions.
Working Conditions:
1. Accountability to Supervisor with direct accountability to the Physicians. Normal peri-operative environment with occasional exposure to chemical odors, cleaning solvents and other hazardous materials. Occasional exposure to possible injury when working with electrical equipment which require care and following proper safety procedures. Under direction of Supervisor, runs assigned errands.
